Amid the good moment and rising numbers in pig production, the Mato Grosso Pig Farmers Association (Acrismat) celebrated, last Friday (15), 33 years of foundation. Alongside authorities and figures who helped in the development of the activity in the last three decades, there was also recognition of the importance of the sector's partnership with the Mato Grosso Agricultural Defense Institute (Indea-MT).
The positive year for Mato Grosso's pig industry also reflected pork exports. According to data from the Secretariat of Foreign Trade (Secex), Mato Grosso broke a historic pork export record in 2024, reaching 1,306,000 tons. This figure is 9% higher than the previous record of 1,199,000 tons exported in 2023.
"We are in a period of recovery after facing challenges such as the slaughter of breeding stock and the departure of producers from the activity due to the period of severe crisis faced in 2022. Since last year, the activity has become profitable again in Mato Grosso, largely due to the margin of production costs and the price paid to the producer per kilogram of the animal, but also due to some specific actions achieved by Acrismat, such as the maintenance of tax incentives," says Acrismat's president, Frederico Tannure Filho.
For Tannure, a pig farmer in the municipality of Primavera do Leste, the partnership with surveillance agencies like Indea-MT is crucial for the development of the industry. "It's thanks to the work of Indea-MT and pig farmers that we've been able to increasingly conquer markets in Brazil and around the world. Mato Grosso recently received the foot-and-mouth disease-free zone certification without vaccination, a status that will open new markets for our production. This is a huge victory achieved thanks to the collaborative work of the production sector and the government," he explained.
Mato Grosso's Secretary of Economic Development, César Miranda, congratulated Acrismat on its 33-year history and reinforced the association's partnership. "We know the work the association does, always sharing information and knowledge with producers and striving for the development of the industry. The State Government will always be open to assist in any way possible so that this important activity continues to contribute to the growth of our economy," he stated.

State Representative Carlos Avallone also praised the association's work and recalled his role in Acrismat's growth. "It's an association I've had the pleasure of seeing grow and closely following its development. Acrismat has always believed in our state's potential, and the results are there: the organization has overcome a major crisis and is growing again."
Léo Bortolin, president of the Mato Grosso Association of Municipalities (AMM), highlighted the pork production figures in Mato Grosso and advocated for the inclusion of this protein in school meals. "It's a very healthy and tasty meat, and it's also affordable. That's why we're fighting to ensure that pork is included in our students' diets at least once a week. This is a fight led by the AMM, and we'll work to make it happen."
