Rio Grande do Sul chicken meat exports fall 22% in July

Processed and fresh chicken meat exports from Rio Grande do Sul registered a 22.1% drop in volume in July of this year, compared to the same month last year. Exports totaled 46,200 tons in July 2025, a 13,100-ton decrease compared to July 2024, when the sector shipped 59,300 tons. Revenue also declined in July, with a 20.8% drop in sales, representing a reduction of US$$ 21.6 million compared to the US$$ 104.1 million obtained in the same month of the previous year.

In the first seven months of 2025, the exported volume fell by 4.5%, while revenue fell by 3.5%, compared to the same period in 2024, as shown in the table below.

Market recovery

Market recovery is progressing, but it is still necessary to reopen important consumer markets, such as the European Union and China.

"Our sector has the potential to serve many markets, and in light of the Avian Influenza case, we were able to demonstrate to the world our responsiveness and ongoing efforts to strengthen biosecurity. We will not stop working to defend and strengthen the poultry sector in Rio Grande do Sul. Despite the difficulties and adversities, the state has the capacity to recover and advance both domestically and internationally," stated José Eduardo dos Santos, executive president of the Rio Grande do Sul Poultry Organization (Asgav/Sipargs).

Egg industry and production

Egg sales in Rio Grande do Sul fell 30.6% in the first seven months of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, representing a reduction of 1,300 tons. However, export revenue grew 9%, reaching US$$ 11 million between January and July of this year.

Egg exports are expected to grow significantly with the recovery of the Chilean market in 2025. "Revenue from egg exports has grown thanks to the appreciation per ton in the foreign market and increased demand both in Brazil and abroad," Santos highlights.

Chile should represent an important step in the resumption of chicken and egg exports from Rio Grande do Sul. See the comparative table for the state's exports to Chile from 2023 to 2025.
