Embrapa and partners are holding the fifth edition of the Climate Dialogues event this Wednesday (06) in Porto Alegre (RS), which brings together experts from Brazil and abroad to discuss research, development and innovation actions, as input for the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30). The event, which is covering all biomes, reaches the South Region, where the climate challenges of the Pampas and the Atlantic Forest will be addressed.
One of the highlights is the participation of researcher Thelma Krug as a speaker. A leading expert on climate change in Brazil and worldwide, she coordinates the Scientific Council on Climate, a technical group that will advise the COP30 presidency, and also chairs the Steering Committee of the Global Climate Observing System (GCOS). A retired scientist from the National Institute for Space Research (INPE), Krug was a member of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) for over 20 years, where she served as vice-chair from 2015 to 2023.

Following this, there will be technical presentations and roundtable discussions. In the morning, the discussion will focus on the challenges posed by climate change in the South, with panelists from agriculture, livestock, bioeconomy, and the forestry sector. In the afternoon, the topic will be the role of science, with panelists discussing extreme events such as droughts and floods, food security, and conservation agriculture.

Climate Dialogues
The Climate Dialogues are taking place in Brazil's six biomes, and the various contributions will be consolidated into a summary document to be delivered to Ambassador André Corrêa do Lago, president of COP30, at the end of the conference. The intention is for the contributions to inform public policymaking and support Brazilian negotiators during the conference, to be held from November 11 to 20 in Belém, Pará.
Events have already been held in the Cerrado, Pantanal and Amazon biomes.
