The 2024/25 harvest breaks records and is expected to reach 345.2 million tons.

Brazil is on track to record the largest grain harvest in its history. According to the 11th Grain Harvest Survey 2024/25, released this Thursday (14) by the National Supply Company (Conab), total production should reach 345.2 million tons, 47.7 million more than in the previous cycle and above the previous record of 320.91 million tons harvested in 2022/23.

The advance is due both to the expansion of 2.5% in the cultivated area, estimated at 81.9 million hectares, and to the recovery of the national average productivity, which jumped from 3,722 kilos per hectare in the last harvest to 4,214 kilos in the current season.

Corn and soybeans lead growth

Soybeans and corn accounted for a large portion of the positive result, with a combined increase of 43.4 million tons. Corn production is expected to reach a record 137 million tons, with 109.6 million tons coming from the second crop, which has already been harvested 83.71 metric tons. In Mato Grosso, the largest producer, the second crop harvest is practically complete, with an estimated 53.55 million tons, equivalent to almost half of the national total.

Soybean production also recorded unprecedented performance, with a projected 169.7 million tons, 14.81 TP4T above the previous harvest. This result reflects investments in technology and rural credit, especially through the Harvest Plan, combined with favorable weather conditions in most producing regions.

Other cultures

Rice is estimated at 12.3 million tons, 1.7 million more than the last harvest, driven by an 8.81 metric tonne increase in area and strong productivity, particularly in Rio Grande do Sul. Cotton is expected to reach 3.9 million tons of lint, a new record for the crop, despite the harvest delay due to unseasonable rain and cold weather.

Beans, on the other hand, are expected to see a 3.5% decline in volume, totaling 3.1 million tons over the three annual harvests. The second cycle was hampered by adverse weather in Paraná, compromising yield and quality. Wheat, despite a 16.7% reduction in area, is expected to maintain near-stabilized production at 7.81 million tons, thanks to more favorable weather conditions than in the previous cycle.

Market and exports

Conab also revised its corn export projections upward, now estimated at 40 million tons, compared to 38.5 million in the 2023/24 cycle. The increase is supported by record supply and opportunities in the international market amid trade disputes between the United States and major importers.

Domestic corn consumption is expected to exceed 90 million tons, and even so, the country will have room to replenish stocks, projected at 10.3 million tons.
