The Epagri Center for Socioeconomics and Agricultural Planning (Epagri\/Cepa) presented last Tuesday (10) the initial estimates for the 2025\/26 winter harvest in Santa Catarina. The event brought together data collected by a technical network that covers all regions of the state and was broadcast by Epagri Online YouTube channel<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The survey of agricultural production in Santa Catarina is carried out by market agents who collect data from informants in the most relevant production regions of the state. These informants include extension agents from Epagri, cooperatives, city halls, unions, banks and other institutions that operate in rural areas.<\/p>\n

After this stage, the data undergoes statistical analysis to assess variations in the planted area, production and yield, comparing initial and final estimates, as well as the current harvest with the previous one. Technical meetings complement the process, with the participation of researchers who monitor the markets for each product.<\/p>\n

Bruna Parente Porto, Socioeconomic and Rural Development Analyst at Epagri\/Cepa, emphasizes the importance of monitoring. \u201cKnowing production expectations is essential for harvest planning, in addition to guiding storage and distribution,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n

The release of the initial estimates aims to provide transparency to projections for the 2025\/26 winter harvest in Santa Catarina.<\/p>\n

Featured crops: garlic, onion, oats, barley and wheat<\/strong><\/p>\n

Garlic:<\/strong>\u00a0Santa Catarina is the fourth largest national producer, especially of purple garlic, grown in the Santa Catarina plateau, known as the \u201cnational birthplace of garlic\u201d. For 2025\/26, the planted area is expected to grow by 12.7%, reaching 743 hectares, with production estimated at 7.8 thousand tons \u2014 an increase of 7.5% compared to the previous harvest. Average productivity is expected to drop slightly, to 5%, due to the previous harvest being exceptional.<\/p>\n

Onion:<\/strong>\u00a0The state maintains national leadership in onion production, with an expected planted area of 19.5 thousand<\/p>\n

hectares, an increase of 1%. Productivity is expected to grow by 5.8%, with production estimated at 594 thousand tons, 7.5% above the last harvest. The main producing microregions are Ituporanga, Tabuleiro and Joa\u00e7aba.<\/p>\n

Wheat:<\/strong>\u00a0The planted area is expected to fall by 5.6%, to 116 thousand hectares, with stable productivity at around 3,500 kg\/ha. The expected production is 407 thousand tons, a drop of 5.9%. The micro-regions of Chapec\u00f3, Xanxer\u00ea, Curitibanos and Canoinhas lead production. Santa Catarina is the third largest national producer.<\/p>\n

Oat:<\/strong>\u00a0The planted area is expected to increase by 2.4%, to 33 thousand hectares, with productivity rising by 13.1%. Production may reach 50 thousand tons, an increase of 15.8%. The micro-regions of Xanxer\u00ea and Chapec\u00f3 are the main producing centers.<\/p>\n

Barley:<\/strong>\u00a0With little expression in the state, barley will have an increase of 177% in the planted area, reaching 860 hectares, and expected production of 3 thousand tons, an increase of 115%. The crop is aimed at the production of malt for beer, with strong technical support from the industries.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
