S\u00c3O PAULO (Reuters) \u2013 Soybean planting in Mato Grosso for the 2025\/26 crop reached 21.22% of the estimated area, a weekly increase of 6.19 percentage points, maintaining a pace above the five-year historical average, according to data from the Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics (Imea) released this Friday.<\/p>\n
The planting work is far ahead of the pace recorded at this same time last year, which was 8,81% of the area, as the rains have allowed the work to take place more frequently this year.<\/p>\n
The five-year average for the period is 17,17% of planted area, according to data from Imea.<\/p>\n
The institute pointed out that the progressing well in the work favors the climatic window for planting and developing the second crop of corn and cotton, which is planted after the soybean harvest in Mato Grosso.<\/p>\n
"It's especially important at the beginning that planting goes smoothly, that people can get into the fields, and that there are no stoppages over the weeks," said the superintendent of Imea, Cleiton Gauer.<\/p>\n
"Planting going well tends to be a great and good indicator for the second crop," he added.<\/p>\n
In addition to being the largest soybean producer in Brazil, Mato Grosso is also the country's leading state for cotton and corn, most of which are harvested in the second crop season.<\/p>\n
Earlier in the week, Imea maintained its projections for soybean acreage and production, citing uncertainties regarding the level of investment this season, despite the favorable weather in this initial phase.<\/p>\n
"Producers remain under pressure from high production costs, lower soybean futures prices, still high interest rates, and sales below those recorded last year and the historical average for the period," the report said.<\/p>\n
In this context, the cultivated area remained the same as in the previous month's survey at 13.01 million hectares, which would represent an annual growth of 1.67%.<\/p>\n
Productivity is preliminarily projected at 60.45 sacks\/hectare, a decrease of 8.811 TP4T compared to the previous harvest, when it reached a record level, benefiting from favorable weather and investments.<\/p>\n
Soybean production in Mato Grosso in 2025\/26 is estimated at 47.18 million tons, a decrease of 7.29% compared to the previous cycle.<\/p>\n
