The Systematic Survey of Agricultural Production (LSPA), released on Tuesday (14) by IBGE, shows that the national harvest of cereals, legumes and oilseeds should total 341.9 million tons in 2025. This is a value 16.8% or 49.2 million tons higher than the harvest obtained in 2024 (292.7 million tons).<\/p>\n

Compared to August, the estimate showed an increase of 0.2%, an addition of 660,900 tons. The next LSPA release, on November 13th, will provide the first forecast for the 2026 harvest.<\/p>\n
The area to be harvested this year should be 81.4 million hectares, representing a growth of 3.0% (2.4 million hectares more) compared to the area harvested in 2024. Compared to the previous month, the area to be harvested showed an expansion of 102,700 hectares (0.1%).<\/p>\n
"With the help of favorable weather during the summer and second harvests, a record grain harvest was achieved. Another reason is that producers also expanded planting areas and invested more in crops because the prices of some products at planting time were attractive and offered good profitability," explains LSPA manager Carlos Barradas.<\/p>\n
For soybeans, the production estimate was 165.9 million tons. As for corn, the estimate was 138.4 million tons (26.1 million tons of corn in the first crop and 112.3 million tons of corn in the second crop). Rice (paddy) production was estimated at 12.4 million tons; wheat at 7.8 million tons; cotton (seed cotton) at 9.8 million tons; and sorghum at 5.0 million tons.<\/p>\n
In relation to the 2024 harvest, there are increases of 10.6% for upland cotton (seed cotton); 17.2% for paddy rice; and 14.4%.<\/p>\n

for soybeans; from 20.7% for corn (growth of 14.0% for first-crop corn and 22.4% for second-crop corn); from 24.8% for sorghum; from 3.6% for wheat; and for beans, there was a decrease of 0.5%.<\/p>\n
Rice, corn, and soybeans are the three main products in this group, which together represent 92.6% of the estimated production and account for 88.0% of the area to be harvested. Compared to the previous year, there were increases of 4.8% in the area to be harvested for cotton (seed cotton); 11.3% for paddy rice; 3.6% for soybeans; 3.8% for corn (a decline of 5.3% in first-crop corn and an increase of 6.4% in second-crop corn); and 11.4% for sorghum; with declines of 5.5% for beans and 18.5% for wheat.<\/p>\n
Grain harvest in the Midwest grows 21.6%\u00a0<\/strong> Photo: Gilson Abreu<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Mato Grosso leads as the largest national grain producer, with a share of 32.4%, followed by Paran\u00e1 (13.5%), Goi\u00e1s (11.3%), Rio Grande do Sul (9.4%), Mato Grosso do Sul (7.4%) and Minas Gerais (5.5%), which, together, represented 79.5% of the total. Regarding regional shares, the distribution is as follows: Central-West (51.4%), South (25.1%), Southeast (8.8%), Northeast (8.2%) and North (6.5%).<\/p>\n The main positive absolute variations in production estimates, compared to the previous month, occurred in Mato Grosso (258,551 t), Tocantins (186,787 t), Paran\u00e1 (122,600 t), Rond\u00f4nia (86,757 t), Goi\u00e1s (69,470 t), Sergipe (48,701 t), Minas Gerais (37,130 t), Roraima (13,253 t) and Rio de Janeiro (134 t). Negative variations occurred in Bahia (-43,325 t), Cear\u00e1 (-39,757 t), Maranh\u00e3o (-37,141 t), Rio Grande do Sul (-28,785 t), Acre (-4,826 t), Pernambuco (-2,909 t), Par\u00e1 (-2,577 t), Rio Grande do Norte (-1,563 t), Esp\u00edrito Santo (-1,353 t) and Alagoas (-265 t).<\/p>\n About LSPA<\/strong> It allows not only the monitoring of each crop investigated, from the planting intention phase to the end of the harvest in the reference calendar year, but also the forecast of the following year's crop, for which the survey is carried out in the months of October, November and December. \nThe estimated production of cereals, legumes, and oilseeds showed a positive annual variation for all regions: Central-West (21.6%), South (9.5%), Southeast (16.8%), Northeast (8.3%), and North (22.5%). Regarding the monthly variation, production increased in the North (1.3%), South (0.1%), Central-West (0.2%), and Southeast (0.1%) regions.
