The meeting in Rio Grande do Sul, held last week, brought together representatives from mills in various regions of the country to closely monitor the conditions of the 2025 wheat harvest in the state, the largest national producer. Promoted by the Brazilian Wheat Industry Association (Abitrigo), the meeting brought industry and agriculture closer together, promoting dialogue on the quality, productivity, and sustainability of wheat production in Rio Grande do Sul.<\/p>\n
The superintendent of Abitrigo, Eduardo Ass\u00eancio, highlighted the group's representativeness and the strategic relevance of the state. \u201cWe have brought together a highly respectable group in terms of wheat-consuming mills, responsible for more than 501% of national milling. Wheat from Rio Grande do Sul is highly relevant in the market, and we need to understand in detail what we will have available in the state's 2025 harvest. Harvesting conditions are adequate, and there is a strong awareness among farmers regarding quality, which allows us to project good results,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

The manager of the annual crops area at Emater\/RS, Alencar Paulo Rugeri, highlighted the positive impact of environmental conditions and sectoral integration. \u201cDespite the difficulties faced by producers, such as access to credit, the great highlight of this cycle has been the environmental factor, which has sustained the development of the crops. We are at a defining moment of the harvest, but conditions are good and we should have more precise numbers soon. A good harvest strengthens the entire chain, guaranteeing a good product for the mills and benefiting the consumer,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n
For Rugeri, receiving mills from diverse regions reinforces the importance of this collaboration. \u201cIt was very important to be able to dialogue with those who operate at the other end of the production chain. The more we understand the objectives of each link, the more consistent the success of Brazilian wheat will be,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
According to Andreas Elter, director of Moinho Taquariense Motasa, it is very important for everyone, from north to south of the country, to follow this showcase and have an idea of what awaits us, although many decisions depend on the next 20 days. \u201cThe consensus is that the crop is very beautiful and healthy this year, a condition considered excellent. We have a forecast of a good harvest and high quality. The most important thing now is to hope for little rain, to guarantee a good harvest. Abitrigo's initiative is excellent, and expanding the mapping to other regions is fundamental,\u201d he highlighted.<\/p>\n
Bruno Badotti, commercial director of Moinho R\u00e9gio, emphasized the importance of direct contact with the field and the exchange of information. \u201cMy first experience on the tour was very significant because, although we talk to partners by phone, being here and actually seeing the crop conditions gives us much more information to decide how to act in the coming months. For us mills, the commercial year begins now, in September, with the start of the harvest in Paran\u00e1 and other regions. Therefore, this data collection and the exchange of experiences with those who participate are fundamental,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
\u201cI grew up hearing about Abitrigo's tours and now I have the pleasure of participating representing my family. This contact with mills and producers, understanding what they expect from the next harvest, was very enriching. We are in a period of anticipation and, although there is some anxiety until the harvest, it was positive to show the culture and traditions of the interior of Rio Grande do Sul and to see the structure of the seedbeds, the care with traceability and segregation, which are challenges for the mills. Knowing that this work is being done gives us confidence that we will have good results in the future,\u201d highlighted the industrial director of Orqu\u00eddea Alimentos, Felipe Tondo Pereira.<\/p>\n

At the end of the tour, the superintendent of Abitrigo, Eduardo Ass\u00eancio, gave a positive assessment of the initiative and the harvest. \u201cWe exceeded expectations, especially those of people who had never participated before, in such an organized and information-rich tour to contribute to the mills. Regarding wheat from Rio Grande do Sul, we expect a good harvest, within the high technological standards that the region has achieved. The weather has been helpful, and technology, such as seeds and management, has visibly advanced. However, we feel a burden due to the economic condition of farmers who, lacking capital due to political and economic factors, face difficulties that weaken the agricultural and wheat sectors. We leave here aware of this challenge, but optimistic about the future,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
During the tour, the group visited experimental fields, rural properties, and companies in the sector in the cities of Passo Fundo, N\u00e3o-Me-Toque, Cruz Alta, and Tapera. The program included a visit to the Biotrigo headquarters, and stops at companies such as Be8, Cotrijal, Cerealista Roos, and Terraboa Agr\u00edcola.<\/p>\n
