On an official mission to Southeast Asia, the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos F\u00e1varo, met this Friday (24) with the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security of Malaysia, Mohamad Sabu. The meeting resulted in the resumption of trade in Brazilian chicken meat with the Asian country and the opening of six new markets for agricultural products from Brazil.<\/p>\n

The meeting is part of a mission led by President Luiz In\u00e1cio Lula da Silva, who is making official visits to Indonesia and Malaysia between October 23 and 28, focusing on strengthening strategic partnerships and expanding Brazil's presence in the region.<\/p>\n

Among the main topics discussed was the reopening of the Malaysian market for Brazilian chicken meat, which had been suspended due to sanitary measures related to Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI). Minister F\u00e1varo highlighted the importance of reducing the ban period, currently 12 months, and implementing the regionalization system, allowing for a faster resumption of exports of chicken meat and poultry genetic material. \u201cWe arrived in Malaysia from Indonesia and came directly to the Malaysian Ministry of Agriculture, where we held our first bilateral meeting with excellent news. The main piece of news is the resumption of trade in Brazilian chicken with Malaysia, a process that could take 12 months, but we managed to bring it forward to just three,\u201d stated F\u00e1varo.<\/p>\n

The meeting also expanded access for new Brazilian products to the Malaysian market. The Malaysian government authorized the import of wild-caught and farmed fish, sesame seeds, melons, and apples, in addition to formalizing the opening of the market for powdered eggs and bringing forward the audit mission that will evaluate 16 Brazilian pork processing plants. \u201cChicken, pork, fruits, grains, sesame seeds, eggs. Brazil is generating opportunities in Malaysia, opening up space for our producers and strengthening Brazilian agribusiness,\u201d celebrated Minister F\u00e1varo.<\/p>\n

The meeting marked another step forward in the Brazilian mission to Southeast Asia, reinforcing Brazil's role as a strategic partner in global food security.<\/p>\n

Brazil-Malaysia trade<\/h4>\n

In 2024, bilateral trade between Brazil and Malaysia reached US$487.2 million, with US$346.4 million in Brazilian exports and US$140.9 million in imports. Malaysia ranks 23rd among the main destinations for Brazilian exports.<\/p>\n

In agribusiness, Brazil exported US$1.26 billion in 2024, with raw cane sugar, corn, and cotton being the main products.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
