Inaugurated this Monday, the 27th, the new Seed Processing Units (UBS) of Coamo in Dourados and Maracaju, in Mato Grosso do Sul, represent another advance in the cooperative's structure to serve producers in the region. Each unit has a capacity for 250,000 sacks of seeds, with climate-controlled storage technology and state-of-the-art equipment. The investments total approximately R$ 60 million and aim to guarantee quality, safety, and efficiency in the supply of seeds to cooperative members. The events were attended by cooperative members, Coamo directors, managers of the MS units, authorities, and local and regional leaders.<\/p>\n

According to the president of the Boards of Directors of Coamo and Credicoamo, Jos\u00e9 Aroldo Gallassini, the new processing system is an important investment made by the cooperative. \u201cIt represents the pinnacle of seed processing, which includes treatment against fungi and pests, with controlled temperature. The warehouses have air conditioning, ensuring that the seeds remain refrigerated year-round and maintain germination during planting.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gallassini emphasizes that the new model has ensured good results and an absence of complaints regarding germination. \u201cThere are no complaints. This is because the treatment is adequate and modern.\u201d The new structures also bring seed production closer to the cooperative members in Mato Grosso do Sul. \u201cWe brought the seeds produced in Paran\u00e1, Santa Catarina, and Rio Grande do Sul for treatment and delivery to the cooperative members at planting time,\u201d explains the president.<\/p>\n

According to Gallassini, the investments made in Mato Grosso do Sul are a result of the active participation of Coamo's cooperative members. \u201cWe have a very important group of cooperative members here in the state. The volume of seeds and inputs acquired is significant, and this makes the investments economically viable.\u201d He added that, in addition to expanding the infrastructure, the goal is to generate more productivity and income in the field. \u201cThe cooperative member will have quality seeds for everything they produce. We have seen the satisfaction and recognition of the cooperative members regarding the germination and quality of Coamo seeds,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n

Coamo's CEO, Airton Galinari, emphasizes that the two new units are the result of a long-term project aimed at improving the services offered to cooperative members. \u201cThis is another dream we had for Mato Grosso do Sul. Seed production is a service. As a company, perhaps this investment wouldn't be the best business decision, but it's a good deal for the cooperative member, considering the quality of service we provide.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to him, the project is part of the Excellence in Seed Production Program, which improves the entire seed selection and production process. \u201cWe created a field seed team structure to select the best seeds in production. This processing stage is the final step, ensuring ideal temperature and humidity conditions.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the new seed processing units, the temperature is maintained between 13 and 15 degrees Celsius, preserving the quality and vigor of the seeds. \u201cEveryone could see firsthand the icy temperature, between 13 and 15 degrees Celsius, ideal conditions that will guarantee our quality,\u201d comments Galinari. The CEO also emphasizes that the units reflect the confidence in the South Mato Grosso cooperative members. \u201cWe have the full support of our Board of Directors because we perceive this effective participation from our members. The relationship between members and the cooperative is becoming increasingly stronger.\u201d<\/p>\n

Coamo's Director of Supplies and Technical Assistance, Aquiles de Oliveira Dias, emphasizes that the new Seed Processing Units represent an evolution in the supply of this input to cooperative members. \u201cWe are inaugurating two climate-controlled warehouses, each with a capacity of 250,000 sacks. This is a great benefit, as the seeds will be stored in ideal temperature and humidity conditions, preserving their quality until planting. This time between treatment and planting is very important. That's why we installed the largest industrial seed treatment machines in Brazil in Dourados and Maracaju.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Dias, industrial treatment ensures precise dosage of products and protection against pests and diseases, with direct benefits for the cooperative member. \u201cThe quality of industrial treatment is superior to what can be done on the farm. We guarantee that each seed is uniformly coated, which doesn't happen with manual applications,\u201d he explains. He adds that in addition to quality, there are gains in labor and environmental safety. \u201cThe cooperative member no longer needs to carry out the treatment on the property, avoiding employee exposure to chemicals and reducing environmental risks. These are state-of-the-art equipment, the best in seeds and seed treatment,\u201d emphasizes the director.<\/p>\n

Dias points out that Coamo's expansion in the state is the result of work that began two decades ago. \u201cTwenty years ago, Coamo decided to establish itself in Mato Grosso do Sul not as an experiment, but to introduce cooperativism and remain in the state. These processing units are another step. As cooperative members continue to respond in volume and purchase Coamo seeds, we will be able to build other similar structures in different regions,\u201d he reflects.<\/p>\n

According to Coamo's Seed Manager, Roberto Destro, the realization of the new ventures is the result of planning that began about three years ago. "After many meetings, feasibility studies, and project development, we arrived at this structure which is now one of the largest in Brazil," he states. He reiterates that the new industrial seed treatment machine is considered the largest in the country, with characteristics that make it unique worldwide as well. "It's a machine developed specifically to meet the needs of Coamo and its members, allowing the seeds to be stored in ideal conditions until close to the planting date," explains Destro.<\/p>\n

According to him, the implementation of the new units will allow for greater logistical and operational efficiency. \u201cWe will begin a planning process with the cooperative members, processing the seeds closer to planting time, preventing them from being stored for long periods and traveling long distances. This reduces bottlenecks and maintains seed quality.\u201d<\/p>\n

With the new units, cooperative members in Mato Grosso do Sul will have access to processed, treated, and stored seeds using cutting-edge technology, closer to their properties and ready for use at the ideal planting time. "This is yet another service that Coamo offers its members, guaranteeing quality and efficiency throughout the entire production chain," he concludes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
