The announcement of the resumption of Brazilian chicken meat trade with Malaysia could have a positive impact on the economy of Paran\u00e1. Imports of the product by the Asian country had been suspended since the registration of avian influenza at a commercial farm in Montenegro, Rio Grande do Sul. Commercial farms in Paran\u00e1 have not registered any cases.<\/p>\n
In 2024, Paran\u00e1's chicken meat exports to Malaysia yielded an average of US$564,550 per month, totaling US$6.77 million in annual revenue. Paran\u00e1 exported 4,350 tons to Malaysia, representing 0.21 of the total 2.17 million tons exported by the state during that period.<\/p>\n
According to statistics from the Brazilian Agribusiness Foreign Trade Agency (Agrostat\/Mapa), Malaysia was the 46th main destination for Paran\u00e1's chicken meat exports last year, with a total of exports registered to 138 countries during that period.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe resumption of trade with all countries is important to reaffirm the image of Brazilian chicken meat, which sells quality and health to the world,\u201d says Marcelo Garrido, head of the Department of Rural Economy (Deral) of the Paran\u00e1 State Secretariat of Agriculture and Supply (Seab). \u201cParan\u00e1 is the largest producer and exporter of chicken in the country, responsible for more than a third of national production, especially in the western and southwestern regions, and will have a positive impact on the return of imports by Malaysia.\u201d<\/p>\n
Paran\u00e1 is the national leader in chicken meat production. The state accounted for 558.6 million units slaughtered in the second quarter of this year. This volume is equivalent to 34.1% of the country's total production during that period. The neighboring states of Santa Catarina (13.7%) and Rio Grande do Sul (11.4%) complete the podium, reinforcing the importance of the Southern region in this segment.<\/p>\n
The state also exported US$$ 4 billion worth of frozen chicken meat to various countries last year and US$$ 2.6 billion up to September of this year.<\/p>\n
Since the beginning of the restrictions imposed due to avian flu, several countries have already lifted the restrictions, including South Africa, Albania, Angola, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Argentina, Bahrain, Bolivia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Qatar, Chile, South Korea, Cuba, Egypt, El Salvador, United Arab Emirates, Philippines, Hong Kong, India, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lesotho, Libya, North Macedonia, Morocco, Mauritania, Mexico, Myanmar, Montenegro, Namibia, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic, United Kingdom, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Turkey, Uruguay, Vanuatu, and Vietnam.<\/p>\n
Canada, China, Pakistan, East Timor, and the European Union still maintain restrictions. The return of trade with China is the most anticipated. "The country usually buys in large volumes and pays above-average prices for products that are not so valued in Brazil, such as chicken feet," Garrido exemplifies.<\/p>\n
In 2024, according to Agrostat\/Mapa, China acquired 561.1 tons of chicken meat from Brazil, representing 10.9% of total exports, generating revenue of US$1.29 billion.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
