The Santa Gertrudis breed has just established itself throughout the Brazilian Midwest with purebred cattle breeding farms, marking another important step in its national expansion. This advancement comes with a new purebred cattle breeding project developed in Mato Grosso, a partnership between a new and a traditional breeder. \u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n
With the new member in Mato Grosso, ABSG (Brazilian Santa Gertrudis Association) officially has breeders in all states of the Midwest, a strategic region for beef cattle farming, where the breed has stood out in crossbreeding projects due to its adaptability, hardiness, and high productive efficiency, resulting in increased demand for semen and bulls in the state.\u00a0

\nThe project is the result of a partnership between the Biancon Group, a leading grain producer in the state, and Fazenda Mangabeira, from Sergipe, which has 47 years of experience in breeding and selecting the breed. The Mangueira-Biancon project is being implemented in the municipality of Ita\u00faba, near Sinop (MT), where 120 embryos have already been transferred, and there is a goal of reaching up to 600 transfers this year. The partnership focuses on developing a purebred herd, with intensive use of IVF and evaluated genetics, as well as performance tests and participation in programs such as Geneplus.\u00a0

\nAccording to Ivan Biancon, director of the Biancon Group, the interest in the breed arose from the combination of performance and adaptability. \u201cMangabeira has a tradition of genetic work with the breed, and this partnership came about when we saw in the Santa Gertrudis a rustic animal with excellent weight gain and superb meat quality. The breed has achieved results far exceeding expectations: animals on a diet designed to gain 1.1 kg per day are gaining 1.7 kg, eating less and delivering more,\u201d he explains.<\/p>\n
Operating in Mato Grosso for 30 years and with a strong agricultural tradition, the Biancon Group began its expansion into livestock farming in 2018 and today maintains a complete cycle project (breeding, raising, and fattening) on an area of 4,000 hectares. With the partnership, the group aims to reach 2,000 cows inseminated with Santa Gertrudis by 2026, in addition to planning its first joint auction within three years.\u00a0

\nThe expansion of the breed coincides with a positive moment for the Santa Gertrudis breed at the national level. This year, there has been growth in the number of bulls of this breed in insemination centers, a direct reflection of the appreciation of its zootechnical characteristics and the growing demand for adapted and productive genetics.\u00a0
