The Legislative Assembly of Mato Grosso approved, in two votes last Wednesday (19), the bill that establishes the Green Passport Program, an initiative that places the State at the forefront of sustainable livestock farming in Brazil. The new legislation will come into effect in January 2026 and establishes socio-environmental criteria for all monitoring of Mato Grosso's cattle and buffalo herds, with the aim of meeting the demands of the most competitive international markets.<\/p>\n
The Green Passport, developed by the Mato Grosso Institute of Meat (Imac) in partnership with the State Government and the production sector, proposes the complete socio-environmental monitoring of the meat supply chain, from the birth of the animal to slaughter. The program foresees implementation phases to include properties of all sizes, offering technical support and guidance to producers.<\/p>\n
Among the objectives of this sustainability policy are sustainable development, inclusion and productive awareness, access to the global market, quality and monitoring, encouragement of partnerships between the private sector and public entities, valuation of environmental services, and the promotion of a level playing field in the production chain.<\/p>\n
The initiative reinforces Mato Grosso's commitment to responsible production, traceability, transparency, and environmental conservation\u2014criteria increasingly valued by global importers and consumers. Countries in Europe and Asia, for example, have adopted policies that prioritize products with proven sustainable origin and zero deforestation. \u201cMato Grosso is consolidating itself as a pioneer in sustainability with the Green Passport.
