The first estimate from the Systematic Survey of Agricultural Production (LSPA), released by IBGE, points to contrasting scenarios for the country's two main crops in 2026. While soybeans are expected to set a new national record, corn is forecast to experience a sharp decline after a record harvest in 2025.<\/p>\n

For soybeans, IBGE projects production of 167.7 million tons in 2026, an increase of 1.11 TP4T compared to the previous cycle. This growth is supported by a slight increase of 0.31 TP4T in planted area and an increase of 0.81 TP4T in average yield, which should reach 3,507 kg\/ha. If confirmed, this will be the largest volume ever produced by the country.<\/p>\n

Corn, in turn, tends to register the most significant drop among the main crops. The total production forecast is 128.4 million tons, a decrease of 9.3% (13.2 million tons less) compared to the 2025 harvest, which was exceptional due to favorable weather during the second crop period.<\/p>\n

The first corn crop is expected to reach 26.3 million tons, an increase of 0.9%, with a 3.3% increase in harvested area, even though the yield will decrease by 2.4%. The second crop, responsible for more than 70% of national production, accounts for the largest share of the decline: an estimated 102.1 million tons, a reduction of 11.6%, driven by a proportional decrease in yield.<\/p>\n

According to IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics), the high comparison base of the 2025 harvest and the influence of La Ni\u00f1a, which alters rainfall patterns in the Midwest and South, explain part of the estimated losses for corn. The institution also mentions uncertainties about the planting window, since summer crops are still developing.<\/p>\n

With these results, soybeans and corn remain the mainstays of national agricultural production, but with divergent trajectories as 2026 approaches.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
