The result reflects the combination of a 3% increase in the sown area, going from 81.7 million hectares in the last season to 84.2 million hectares in the current cycle, and a reduction in the national average productivity of the crops, estimated at 4210 kilos per hectare in 2025/26 compared to 4310 in 2024/25. In Mato Grosso, the main producing state of the grain, sowing is complete, according to the Crop Progress report published by the state-owned company this week. In the first half of November, rainfall in the Southern Region allowed for significant progress in the planted area, while in the Central-West, North and Northeast regions, as well as Minas Gerais, inconsistent rainfall delayed fieldwork. From the second half of last month onwards, rainfall normalized in these regions, allowing for further progress in the sown area. Conab estimates that 48.9 million hectares will be allocated to soybean cultivation in the 2025/26 harvest, resulting in an estimated production of 177.1 million tons, 3.31 TP4T above the total produced in the previous harvest, a new record if confirmed.

Another important crop for domestic supply and cultivated in the first harvest, rice, is projected to yield 11.2 million tons, a reduction of 12.41 TP4T compared to the previous cycle, given the current market conditions for the cereal. This decrease is influenced by the smaller cultivated area, estimated at 1.62 million hectares. In Rio Grande do Sul, the main rice-producing state, sowing has reached 981 TP4T of the area, while in Santa Catarina, another important producing state, planting is complete.

For many Brazilians, beans are a staple food alongside rice, with a total production, considering all three harvests of the legume, estimated at around 3 million tons, a volume similar to that obtained in the previous cycle, ensuring domestic supply. Planting of the first bean harvest has already been completed in Paraná and São Paulo, and is progressing in other states, with 93.81 TP4T of the area sown in Minas Gerais and 671 TP4T in Bahia.

For corn, total production, adding up the three harvests, is estimated at 138.9 million tons, representing a reduction of 1.51 TP4T compared to the previous cycle. Sowing has already reached 71.31 TP4T of an area of 4 million hectares destined for the cereal in this first cycle, with production projected at 25.9 million tons, an increase of 3.91 TP4T over the previous harvest.

Among winter crops, the 2025 harvest is in its final stages. Wheat, the main crop sown, already has 98% of the area harvested, with an estimated production of 8 million tons. This volume is 0.9% higher than that recorded in the previous cycle, due to predominantly favorable weather conditions throughout the cycle, even though adverse factors occurred in some regions.

Market

In this survey, Conab maintained virtually stable projections for the 2024/25 crop supply outlook for most of the products analyzed, when compared to the information released last month, with slight adjustments in light of updated production expectations and the market situation for the crops analyzed.

Photo: Gilson Abreu/AEN

One of the changes refers to a small adjustment in the export estimate for the 2024/25 crop, with an increase of 313,000 tons, totaling shipments of around 106.97 million tons by the end of 2025. This quantity may still be adjusted and will be confirmed in the next survey. According to the Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services (MDIC), from January to November, 104.79 million tons of soybeans were exported, a record volume for the country, exceeding the 101.87 million tons sold to the international market in the entire year of 2021.
