Turkey meat exports in Paran\u00e1 grew again in 2025. Data from Agrostat Brasil, a platform of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa), shows an increase in shipments and revenues generated by the protein segment. Between January and October of this year, the state exported 12,200 tons of turkey meat, with revenues of US$38.7 million. Compared to the same period in 2024, the Paran\u00e1 sector registered increases of 12.7% and 53.9%, respectively.<\/p>\n
Paran\u00e1 was once the largest national producer of turkeys. In 2018, with the closure of the BRF slaughterhouse in Francisco Beltr\u00e3o, in the Southwest region, the sector reduced production and several poultry farmers migrated to other activities, such as broiler chicken farming.<\/p>\n
In 2021, BRF returned to the municipality in the Southwest region, after a turkey slaughtering plant was approved for export to Mexico, Brazil's largest trading partner for this type of protein.<\/p>\n
Since then, Paran\u00e1 has been gradually resuming its production of this bird to approach the levels of the past decade. Today, Paran\u00e1 occupies the third position in the national ranking.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Faep System stood by the producers during the crisis in the sector and welcomes this recovery in turkey production and exports. This activity plays an important role in Paran\u00e1's poultry industry, and we hope it continues with these positive indicators for next year,\u201d says the interim president of the Faep System, \u00c1gide Eduardo Meneguette.<\/p>\n

Paran\u00e1 is expected to end 2025 with the highest growth in turkey exports among the states in the Southern Region.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n
Turkey production has some unique characteristics compared to other protein sources. One of them is the importance of the domestic market in selling the slaughtered animals.<\/p>\n
In 2024, according to data from the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA) and the Secretariat of Foreign Trade (Secex), linked to the Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services, 49.6% of this meat was consumed within the country, while the remainder went to export. On average, domestic consumption of the protein is 297 grams per inhabitant.<\/p>\n
Historically, turkey production in Brazil has seen a reduction in slaughter time and weight. Until the 1980s, the bird was slaughtered at up to 19 kilos, over a period of 112 to 140 days. Currently, these figures have been reduced to five kilos and a window of 60 to 62 days.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
