Responsible for 32% of Brazilian grain production in the 2024\/25 harvest, the more than 100,000 rural producers in Mato Grosso operate predominantly (93.5%) as individuals. This accounting profile has fostered the sector towards more sophisticated financial management: fixed-income investments linked to agribusiness. In addition to increasing farm cash flow, these options amplify gains due to the income tax exemption allowed by current legislation for individuals.<\/p>\n
Celso Junqueira, a cattle rancher from Cuiab\u00e1, is one example. He manages a property with 4,000 head of cattle in Brasnorte and about five months ago began investing in the financial market. With his herd fully ready for export, he slaughters animals monthly, but he wasn't taking advantage of the continuous cash flow to make his assets profitable. "Now, I can generate income from my working capital, which was sitting idle in the bank," he explains.<\/p>\n
Celso's decision reflects a market trend. One example is the demand for Agribusiness Credit Notes (LCAs), whose stock in the national market reached R$608.13 billion in September 2025, according to the Agribusiness Finance Bulletin of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa). This volume represents a growth of 231% in 12 months.<\/p>\n
For Gilvania Rufino, XP's leader in Mato Grosso, this growth reflects producers' search for asset protection and greater liquidity. \u201cThe market offers tax-exempt options that make a significant difference in the bottom line for those who don't operate as businesses. What we're seeing is producers moving beyond simply being specialists within their own farms and beginning to view their money with a business perspective. In addition to the tax exemption, these funds raised return to the sector, financing the production chain itself,\u201d the executive analyzes.<\/p>\n
The logic behind this investment shift is the pursuit of real gains, above inflation. In a challenging economic scenario, with interest rates at 151% per 4-month period per year, keeping resources in traditional investments, such as savings accounts, can mean a loss of purchasing power over time. Private credit instruments with tax exemptions, in turn, tend to offer more competitive rates, allowing producers to preserve the sales value of their harvest until the moment they use the funds.<\/p>\n
For Celso Junqueira, this financial organization was fundamental during times of volatility, such as during the taxation of Brazilian beef by the United States. Active cash management allowed him to cushion the impact of price fluctuations. "Despite experiencing a drop from R$ 10 to R$ 15 per arroba, I wasn't harmed because I was already securing higher profitability with the operations," the producer points out.<\/p>\n
Originally from Uberl\u00e2ndia (MG), the cattle rancher arrived in Mato Grosso in 2001 and, upon taking over the management of the farm, stopped trading stocks on the stock exchange. \u201cI decided to dedicate myself entirely to the farm. But, with the opening of the XP office in Cuiab\u00e1, I started to get closer to the financial market again,\u201d he recalled.<\/p>\n
Gilvania Rufino explains that XP's approach to agribusiness is 360 degrees. "Even if the individual operates as a private individual, the farm is a large enterprise and needs predictability and a business vision," she notes. She explains that it's possible to structure credit for rural entrepreneurs more efficiently, by anticipating the purchase of inputs, for example, or by fixing prices (hedging) during periods of volatility.<\/p>\n
Consolidating this close-contact service model is one of the company's strategies, which inaugurated a physical headquarters in Cuiab\u00e1 in May of this year. The goal is to support the more than 100,000 producers in the state who, according to Imea, sustain Mato Grosso's leadership in the Gross Value of National Agricultural Production.<\/p>\n
Leadership<\/strong><\/p>\n The "individual" profile does not prevent Mato Grosso from leading the national ranking of Gross Value of Agricultural Production, measured by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa). In 2024, Mato Grosso's share ranged from 28% to 30% of the total.
