Traditionally, January is a very rainy and very hot month in Paran\u00e1. According to the Paran\u00e1 Environmental Technology and Monitoring System (Simepar), in 2026 the first month will have rainfall and temperatures within the historical average, with the classic summer storms during the warmest periods.<\/p>\n

In January, intense masses of hot and humid air predominate. Because the atmosphere retains a large amount of moisture, storms form frequently. "More significant, heavier rainfall occurs between the afternoon and evening. Summer storms don't last very long, but because they have a great capacity to generate rain, they often lead to flooding, inundations, and sometimes even flash floods," explains Reinaldo Kneib, meteorologist at Simepar.<\/p>\n
In mountainous regions, this process is intensified. For this reason, it is common on the coast to experience quick rain showers with volumes of up to 50 mm, which already occurred in December 2025 and are expected to occur again in January 2026. \u201cIn the interior of the state, we also have this condition when it gets very hot. The atmosphere transforms this energy into storm clouds, cumulonimbus clouds, which lead to these more severe events. And in addition to rain, there is always the possibility of hail, stronger wind gusts, and lightning strikes,\u201d Reinaldo points out.<\/p>\n
According to the meteorologist, no drought period is expected in January 2026. Temperatures will remain high on average, and due to high humidity, the perceived temperature will frequently be higher than what is recorded on thermometers, causing the discomfort of mugginess.<\/p>\n

In January, the days dawn warmer, with temperatures above 20\u00b0C, throughout the western, northwestern, and coastal regions, as well as in the cities.<\/p>\n

Closer to the border area with S\u00e3o Paulo. Minimum temperatures are lower in the Campos Gerais and southern parts of the state, averaging between 16\u00b0C and 18\u00b0C. In the rest of the state, minimum temperatures are between 18\u00b0C and 20\u00b0C.<\/p>\n
Historically, the average temperature in January is above 26\u00b0C in Foz do Igua\u00e7u and surrounding cities. In cities near Cascavel and Toledo, Maring\u00e1, Londrina, Tel\u00eamaco Borba, and Francisco Beltr\u00e3o, the average January temperature historically ranges between 22\u00b0C and 24\u00b0C.<\/p>\n
It is warmer in other cities in the western, northern, and northwestern regions, with temperatures between 24\u00b0C and 26\u00b0C. In the Apucarana, Campos Gerais, and Curitiba Metropolitan Region (except for the capital), the average January temperature historically ranges between 20\u00b0C and 22\u00b0C. Historically, average January temperatures are lower in Curitiba, General Carneiro, and Palmas: between 18\u00b0C and 20\u00b0C.<\/p>\n
Historically, maximum temperatures in January exceed 30\u00b0C in the West, Southwest, Northwest, northern part of the coast, and in cities bordering the state of S\u00e3o Paulo. The exception is Cascavel, which, along with the cities around Pato Branco, Tel\u00eamaco Borba, the eastern part of the Curitiba Metropolitan Region, and the southern part of the Paran\u00e1 coast, historically registers maximum temperatures between 28\u00b0C and 30\u00b0C in January. Historically, maximum temperatures in January are lower only in the Campos Gerais and South regions: between 26\u00b0C and 28\u00b0C.<\/p>\n

Rainfall in January is historically very high. The regions with the least rainfall are around Jaguaria\u00edva and Foz do Igua\u00e7u, with average accumulated rainfall between 100 mm and 125 mm. In the capital, in the far west, and cities around S\u00e3o Mateus do Sul, Pato Branco, and Terra Rica, rainfall in January historically ranges between 125 and 150 mm.<\/p>\n
Historically, rainfall in January is highest along the coast, exceeding 300 mm. It also ranges between 225 and 300 mm in the region around C\u00e2ndido de Abreu. In the region around Maring\u00e1 and Londrina, and in cities near General Carneiro, Cascavel, and Rio Negro, the accumulated rainfall in January historically ranges between 200 mm and 225 mm. In the rest of the state, the average accumulated rainfall historically ranges between 175 mm and 200 mm.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
