In 2026, AquaBrasil had barely begun its journey and already had much to celebrate: the project entered the year with high expectations, driven by the results of previous years, which far exceeded projections. In 2025 alone, more than US$$ 4.49 million were exported, generating income and new markets for the ornamental fish sector.<\/p>\n
This figure represents an increase of 10.4%, while the initial target was 6%. There were over 500 qualified business contacts, with an expected increase in sales of more than US$1.78 million annually.<\/p>\n
This and other information is compiled in the AquaBrasil Panel, which provides data for the development of ornamental fish production. The tool was created by the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture (MPA) so that businesses and the public sector can rely on a consolidated database to support the development of public policies and business planning.<\/p>\n
Capacita Aqua Program<\/h4>\n
One of the pillars of AquaBrasil is training, through the Capacita Aqua Program. In the last two years, 28 companies have already been trained for export, but another 32 have been mobilized to strengthen international trade. Each of them is at a different stage of qualification (there are five stages in total).<\/p>\n
Capacita Aqua features an exclusive platform that members can access continuously. It offers 19 technical lectures in a comprehensive training program designed to qualify companies in various aspects related to the production and sale of ornamental fish in the international market.<\/p>\n

Among the project's activities is participation in international trade shows and other events in the aquarium industry. This was the case with Interzoo, held in Germany in 2024, and the 29th China International Pet Show (CIPS 2025), held in China this year.<\/p>\n
The director of the Department of Industrial, Amateur and Sport Fishing at the MPA (Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture), Sandra Silvestre, explains that participation in major international events is fundamental to increasing Brazil's visibility in the global ornamental fish market. According to her, "these fairs strengthen the country's image as a reliable, sustainable and competitive supplier, in addition to creating opportunities for opening new markets, consolidating commercial partnerships and valuing Brazilian aquatic biodiversity in a responsible manner."<\/p>\n

AquaBrasil was created in 2023 as a partnership between the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture (MPA) and the Federal University of Rec\u00f4ncavo da Bahia (UFRB). Its objective is to qualify Brazilian companies in the aquarium sector for expansion into international trade. The focus has been on promoting diversity, quality, and sustainability in production.<\/p>\n
The project has partnerships with several institutions, such as the Ministries of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA) and Development, Industry and Trade (MDIC).<\/p>\n

The initiative contributes to the organization of the sector, the qualification of companies, the stimulation of exports, and the promotion of the sustainable use of Brazilian aquatic biodiversity.
