Meanwhile, in foreign trade, S\u00e3o Paulo's egg shipments fared even better, with a 19% increase in exports of the product, according to preliminary data from the Value of Agricultural Production (VPA) in S\u00e3o Paulo, released by the Institute of Agricultural Economics (IEA-APTA) of the Secretariat of Agriculture and Supply (SAA).<\/p>\n
Last year, S\u00e3o Paulo's egg-laying poultry industry produced approximately 16.7 billion units, representing a financial value of R$7.2 billion. The largest egg producer in the country, with a significant share of the national market, S\u00e3o Paulo's production positioned itself well ahead of other states such as Minas Gerais (10%), Esp\u00edrito Santo (9), and Pernambuco (7).<\/p>\n

Regarding exports, S\u00e3o Paulo sold more than 15,000 tons of eggs, with a revenue of US$$60.2 million. The Japanese market was the main destination (3,520 tons), closely followed by the United States (3,170 tons) and Mexico (3,140 tons), respectively.<\/p>\n
According to the president of the Egg and Egg Products Sector Chamber (CS), Cristina Nagano, the poultry production chain faces two main challenges. \u201cThe first is market equilibrium: with high housing levels, supply is high and remains unpredictable. There could be an increase in Brazilian exports, which would help to balance things out, but there is also the risk of a surplus of eggs in the domestic market, which puts pressure on prices,\u201d emphasized President Cristina Nagano.<\/p>\n
According to the technical director of Granja Kakimoto, located in Bastos (SP), S\u00e9rgio Kakimoto, sales for last year were very satisfactory, driven by the stability maintained in the market. \u201c2025 was a very good year for us, as prices were very firm throughout the period. This concern is precisely the second biggest challenge pointed out by the president of CS Eggs and Derivatives (CS), Cristina Nagano. \u201cAvian influenza is a constant threat. Therefore, producers have been continuously investing in biosecurity, with rigorous controls, preventive protocols, and permanent monitoring, precisely to ensure that the region remains free of the disease,\u201d she concluded.<\/p>\n
The Department of Agriculture and Supply, through its Agricultural Defense division, has a Poultry Health Program aimed at maintaining the health of S\u00e3o Paulo's poultry flock, controlling diseases of interest both in poultry farming and in public health. "Regarding commercial farms, the Agricultural Defense division emphasizes the need to reinforce biosecurity measures to the maximum degree in production units, aiming at the sanitary protection of birds in S\u00e3o Paulo's commercial flock," comments Paulo Blandino, veterinarian and head of the State Poultry Health Program (PESA).<\/p>\n
