The pace of harvesting has already slowed down in the western region of Paran\u00e1. This is because a large portion of producers are now awaiting the second corn crop (safrinha). And the weather, which is usually an ally for producers at this time of year, has been a cause for concern.<\/p>\n

According to the Paran\u00e1 Environmental Technology and Monitoring System (Simepar), the forecast for the coming days in the region indicates high temperatures and the possibility of irregular rain showers, a scenario that keeps producers apprehensive. \u201cWe are experiencing a lot of irregular rainfall, meaning it rains heavily in some areas and not at all in others. And it is this lack of rain, combined with the forecast of very little rain, that has caused apprehension regarding production,\u201d explains Alexandre Luis Muller, professor of Agronomy at PUCPR Toledo Campus.<\/p>\n
Another factor that may contribute to production losses is the late planting of the second corn crop. \u201cIn our region, almost all the soybeans have already been harvested and producers have already managed to plant the corn, which is why the soybean results were good. But we have some areas of soybeans sown later, which are still being harvested, and in these areas, where production also faced a period of low rainfall, the production result is affected,\u201d assesses Muller.<\/p>\n
Grain production<\/b><\/h4>\n
In Paran\u00e1, projections solidify soybeans as the main crop, according to the Subjective Crop Forecast from the Department of Rural Economy (Deral) and the Secretariat of Agriculture and Supply (Seab). The expectation is that production will exceed 22 million tons of the grain in the state. The total production of the summer crop, among all crops, is estimated at 25.9 million tons. \u201cSoybeans are consolidated as the main crop in our region, and the results, for those who harvested as expected, are very good. In general, expectations were exceeded in the region,\u201d says the professor from PUCPR Toledo.<\/p>\n
As for the second corn crop projection, Deral forecasts 17.5 million tons in the state. This volume represents a slight decrease of 1% compared to last season's production. "And the situation remains very uncertain for producers. There is a need for more rain during the crop's development so that we can have good results, but there is still no good weather forecast for the coming days," emphasizes the agronomist.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
