Live pig prices fell across the board in February, mirroring a similar trend seen in the chicken market. In the state of S\u00e3o Paulo, the drop was 17% compared to January, with prices reaching R$ 6.90 per kilo, a value 21% lower than that recorded in February 2025. In the first half of March, prices remained stable at this level.<\/p>\n
Even with pork being more competitive compared to beef, the price ratio compared to chicken remained within the historical average.<\/p>\n
The reduction in prices directly impacted the profitability of the activity. On average in the southern states and Minas Gerais, prices fell by 15%, while the cost of production saw a slight decrease of 2.4%. As a result, the pig farming spread decreased from 22% in January to 10% in February, the lowest level in 21 months.<\/p>\n
On the supply side, there was an increase in slaughtering. Preliminary data indicates a 3% growth in the volume slaughtered in the first two months of the year.<\/p>\n
In the international market, exports maintained a positive performance. In February, shipments of fresh pork grew by 31% compared to the same month in 2025, accumulating an increase of 8% in the two-month period. Asia remained the main destination, concentrating approximately 7% of sales, with the Philippines and Japan standing out, increasing their purchases by 8% and 4% respectively.<\/p>\n
Despite the increase in export volume, the average price of exports showed a slight decrease compared to January. Even so, with the sharper drop in costs, the export spread remained close to 40%, above the five-year average of 30%.<\/p>\n
According to data from Ita\u00fa BBA Agro Consulting, the period was marked by a sharp drop in domestic prices and compression of margins, while the external market remained the main support for the activity.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
