The Brazilian Federation of Associations of Purebred Animal Breeders (Febrac) advocates for the expansion of bovine traceability and believes that the system should gain importance in the demands of international buyers of Brazilian beef. The organization supports the initiative of the Rio Grande do Sul Department of Agriculture, which seeks to expand control over herds in the state.<\/p>\n
Febrac's technical vice-president, Jos\u00e9 Arthur Martins, states that some markets are already adopting this type of requirement. "They are viewing this entire project developed by the State, in partnership with the Department of Agriculture, favorably, and Febrac has been strongly supporting this movement," he said.<\/p>\n
Traceability allows tracking the history of each animal, from birth to slaughter, and is used as a tool for sanitary control and transparency in the production chain. The system includes the individual identification of cattle and the recording of information on origin, vaccination, feeding, and movements.<\/p>\n
The control measures meet the sanitary requirements of importing markets and allow for faster responses in case of sanitary outbreaks. Despite this, small and medium-sized producers still face difficulties, citing high costs and adaptation to the required technologies.<\/p>\n
Martins emphasizes that traceability has ceased to be a secondary item and has become a necessity for the sector. "It is directly related not only to biosecurity, but also to the food and sanitary safety of the protein that reaches the consumer," he explained.<\/p>\n
Febrac is monitoring the pilot project of the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Sustainable Production and Irrigation (Seapi) in some herds in Rio Grande do Sul, reinforcing its commitment to the evolution of the sector and adaptation to international requirements.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
