Organized, sustainable, and highly technological production. This is how pig farming in Mato Grosso do Sul presents itself, having registered growth of almost 50% in the last three years and establishing itself as one of the main success stories of the state's agribusiness.<\/p>\n
The strength of the sector was highlighted during the 4th Meeting of Pig Farming Leaders of Mato Grosso do Sul, promoted by the South Mato Grosso Pig Farmers Association (Asumas) last Thursday (23). The event brought together producers, authorities, institutional representatives and investors from various regions of the country, in a strategic moment of dialogue on expansion and strengthening of the production chain.<\/p>\n

With the presence of Governor Eduardo Riedel, the meeting reinforced the leading role of the activity in the state economy. Representing the Secretariat of Environment, Development, Science, Technology and Innovation (Semadesc), the participants were Secretary Artur Falcette, Deputy Secretary Alex Melotto, Executive Secretary of Sustainable Development Rog\u00e9rio Beretta, and the CEO of Iagro, Daniel Ingold.<\/p>\n
The team's participation demonstrates the State Government's commitment to the sustainable and competitive development of pig farming.<\/p>\n
During the event, the governor highlighted the organization and evolution of the production chain. \u201cIt\u2019s a structured, professional chain with impressive growth. In three years, it has advanced approximately 50%. More than ranking position, what matters is this consistent growth curve,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

Riedel also highlighted the role of the State as a driver of development, with policies based on incentives, not imposition. "Our model values best practices, productivity, and sustainability, creating a favorable environment for the sector to continue advancing," he added.<\/p>\n
The State Government has been working in a structural way to strengthen the activity, especially through the Leit\u00e3o Vida program, which encourages production and improves the efficiency of the supply chain.<\/p>\n
In 2025, there were 262 approved establishments, more than 108,000 breeding sows, and 3.29 million animals slaughtered, totaling over R$ 91 million in incentives. As of now in 2026, there are 257 approved establishments, 110,500 breeding sows, and over 1 million slaughters, totaling R$ 39.2 million in incentives.<\/p>\n
The president of Asumas, Renato Spera, highlighted the importance of government support for the sector's growth. \u201cWe have potential, animal health, and access to credit. The State is a partner, and that makes all the difference. In recent years, almost R$2 billion in financing has been provided through the FCO for pig farming, resources that are fundamental for this development,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

The program included presentations from Asumas, the Brazilian Association of Swine Breeders (ABCS), and the State Government, focusing on the market, representation, and prospects of the activity.<\/p>\n
Currently, Mato Grosso do Sul has over 300 farms in operation, approximately 121,000 breeding sows, and around 3.6 million pigs slaughtered annually. The industry generates approximately 32,000 direct jobs and drives sectors such as grains, genetics, and services.<\/p>\n
In the international market, performance is also positive: exports exceed 20,000 tons of pork, representing an increase of 111% compared to the previous year. Key destinations include Singapore, the Philippines, and the United Arab Emirates.<\/p>\n
Another strategic factor for the sector's advancement is the Bioceanic Route, which should reduce logistics costs and expand access to Asian markets.<\/p>\n

According to him, more than R$300 million in incentives have already been granted by the State Government to pig farmers since 2020. \u201cPrograms like Leit\u00e3o Vida increase producer profitability and boost the entire chain.
