The Brazilian government said on Tuesday (12) that it was surprised by the European Union's decision to remove Brazil from the list of countries authorized to export products of animal origin intended for human consumption to the European bloc.<\/p>\n

The measure was approved by the European Commission's Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food and Feed and will take effect on September 3, 2026. Until then, according to the government, Brazilian exports will continue as normal.<\/p>\n
In a joint statement, the Ministries of Agriculture, Foreign Affairs, and Development, Industry, Trade and Services said that Brazil will adopt "all necessary measures" to try to reverse the decision and maintain the flow of trade with Europe. "The Government of Brazil will promptly take all necessary measures to reverse this decision, return to the list of authorized countries, and guarantee the flow of sales of these products to the European market," the statement said.<\/p>\n
The Brazilian reaction comes at a time when the national agribusiness sector is heavily dependent on exports of<\/p>\n

The government also highlighted that the European market has been receiving Brazilian products for four decades and stated that the national sanitary system has international recognition.<\/p>\n
According to the note, the head of the Brazilian delegation to the European Union has already scheduled a meeting for this Wednesday (13) with health authorities from the bloc to seek clarification on the decision.<\/p>\n

The statement does not detail which products may be affected, nor what technical grounds the European Commission presented for removing Brazil from the list.<\/p>\n
This measure adds tension to the trade relationship between Brazil and the European Union at a time marked by debates on sanitary requirements, traceability, sustainability, and rules related to the use of antimicrobials in animal production.<\/p>\n
The European Union is one of the main destinations for Brazilian agricultural products with higher added value and tends to adopt stricter sanitary protocols than other importing markets.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
