There is resistance in the Brazilian market to European restrictions on domestic meat. Whenever a stricter requirement arises, the automatic reaction is the same: blame Europe, talk about protectionism, denounce regulatory hypocrisy, complain about asymmetry, and transform the entire discussion into a predictable theater of commercial victimization.<\/p>\n
It's an understandable, but dangerous, reflection. Because, even when there's an underlying geopolitical interest, bias, or market dispute, it doesn't negate the central question that Brazil avoids facing:\u00a0<\/b>What if the problem isn't just the European barrier, but Brazilian opacity?<\/p>\n
This is the question that really matters. Europe isn't just putting pressure on Brazilian beef. It's exposing a structural weakness in a large part of the country's production chains: we still confuse efficient production with a reliable supply chain.<\/p>\n

This is the point that the meat case makes clear. The product is no longer analyzed in isolation. What is now being judged is the system behind it. The discussion no longer revolves solely around what was exported, but also around who produced it, where it came from, under what conditions, with what monitoring and with what auditing capacity..<\/b><\/p>\n
This changes everything. The European Union is now the second largest market for Brazilian meat in terms of value, behind only China. In 2025, it purchased approximately 368,100 tons, in deals totaling US$1.8 billion. Beef alone accounted for more than US$1 billion.<\/p>\n

A company that doesn't see its indirect impact doesn't manage risk; it merely outsources its own vulnerability. A disorganized supply chain isn't just a moral or compliance problem; it's a financial problem. Global studies show that severe supply chain disruptions can cost a company almost 45% of annual profit. Traceability isn't an "ESG luxury," it's economic survival.<\/p>\n
And the most uncomfortable part is that this doesn't stop at the environmental agenda. The opaque supply chain also concentrates labor risks, weak documentation, and international reputational exposure. Agriculture continues to be the main sector with the incidence of child labor in the world. This doesn't authorize simplistic accusations against a specific supply chain. But it imposes an inevitable consequence: in sophisticated markets, those who cannot demonstrate sufficient control end up carrying greater structural suspicion.<\/p>\n

And suspicion, today, costs money. The international market isn't waiting for corporate confessionals. It's demanding proof mechanisms. The new European regulation associated with products linked to deforestation is just a more explicit manifestation of this movement. Before accessing the market, it will be increasingly necessary to present due diligence, documentation, formal declarations, and minimally robust traceability.<\/p>\n

The game has shifted from being discursive to being based on evidence. The new European regulations against deforestation are merely the most explicit manifestation of this movement. It no longer matters whether the company "speaks well" about climate or ethics; what matters is whether it can demonstrate where it is exposed and how it prevents the risk from turning into operational losses.<\/p>\n
In Brazil, this is even more serious because our supply chains are heavily dependent on territory, climate, long logistics, dispersed origins, and high regulatory sensitivity. In other words, without real intelligence about the supply chain, the company does not control risk; it merely lives with it until it is punished for it.<\/p>\n
Brazil still insists on selling to the 21st century with 20th-century mindsets. It still believes that scale solves everything, that price compensates, and that compliance is just a document. Supply chain has become a strategy and a way to access the market.<\/p>\n
The next major global competitive advantage will not be producing more, but proving better. Those who cannot demonstrate control over their origin will continue to call what is, in fact, strategic incompetence disguised as indignation an "international barrier." In the new global trade, it is not those who produce less who lose market share. It is those who see less than they should.<\/p>\n
