In a monthly comparison, there was an increase of 2.08 percentage points in the indicator.

The caution regarding advance sales, a way for producers to lock in some of their costs, is "mainly" related to doubts surrounding weather patterns in the second half of this year, said Famato, highlighting that the potential occurrence of a "super" El Niño could alter rainfall patterns in important producing regions and impact crop development.

"The forecast of a more intense El Niño this year could impact soybeans and, consequently, affect the corn planting window in the next harvest," said Imea market analyst Milena Bezerra.

In the event of delayed rainfall for the start of soybean planting in Mato Grosso, from mid-September onwards, or even insufficient rainfall, this could compromise the ideal schedule for corn, which is sown after the soybean harvest.

To protect themselves against drought, some producers are showing interest in adopting longer-cycle soybean seeds, capable of better withstanding periods of lack of rainfall. But this would have a negative effect on corn, whose development window would be shorter, said Marino Colpo, CEO of the seed producer Boa Safra, to Reuters.

Uncertainties surrounding corn are limiting a more rapid advance in forward sales, even with prices showing relative stability, according to Imea data.

In May, the 60 kg bag of corn for the future harvest was traded, on average, at R$45.39, practically stable compared to April.

CURRENT HARVEST

Meanwhile, advance sales of corn by producers in Mato Grosso reached 47,321 TP4T of the estimated production for 2025/26 by the end of May, when the harvest of the current crop was still incipient, Famato reported this Wednesday.

In the monthly comparison, there was an increase of 1.48 percentage points, still maintaining the faster pace compared to the same period last year (46.30%), but still below the historical average (53.09%).

"The performance reflects the progress of the harvest and the greater availability of the grain on the market. These two factors have led producers to intensify sales and, at the same time, the increase in supply has put pressure on corn prices in the state," the report pointed out.

"Mato Grosso is heading towards another great corn harvest, which increases the availability of the product for both the domestic market and exports."

Mato Grosso's 2025/26 corn crop is estimated at 53.35 million tons, 3.76% below the record registered in the previous cycle, Imea reported earlier this month. As of last Friday, producers had harvested more than 5% of the area.

THE Bela Cereais works with the best grains on the market in the Central West Region and also keeps you up to date with the latest news and analyses on agribusiness.
Don't forget to follow our social networks.

Access News Source

SÃO PAULO, 10 Jun (Reuters) – A comercialização antecipada da safra 2026/27 de milho de…

[90

post-27577","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-centro-oeste
["GET
