Pig farming in Mato Grosso do Sul is consolidating a new cycle of expansion driven by robust investments, financial incentives, and technical advancements on rural properties. Between January and the beginning of June 2026 alone, more than 4.5 million pigs were included in the Leit\u00e3o Vida Program, which has already allocated R$45.2 million to producers.<\/p>\n
Currently, 272 establishments participate in the state initiative, aimed at strengthening the activity with a focus on productivity, quality, and environmental responsibility. Of this total, 239 units already operate within the new compliance model, implemented following the modernization of the program.<\/p>\n
The numbers also highlight the pace of production. During the same period, 1.63 million pigs were slaughtered, while the herd has 111,500 registered breeding sows, reinforcing the state's production base.<\/p>\n
The modernization of the program introduced the requirement for technical monitoring on farms, with the involvement of veterinarians and animal scientists. This measure aims to increase production levels, guarantee animal health, and expand the adoption of sustainable practices, aligning economic growth and environmental responsibility.<\/p>\n
In addition to direct incentives, the sector has accumulated approximately R$1.7 billion in financing approved by the Constitutional Financing Fund of the Midwest over the past seven years. This volume of resources consolidates pig farming as one of the state's main bets for economic development.<\/p>\n
The growth of the activity is also supported by investments in infrastructure, logistics and access to credit, as well as the strengthening of producer associations, which expand the organization of the supply chain and the dissemination of technology in the field.<\/p>\n
Presented during the 5th Abraves\/MS Symposium, the scenario reinforces the strategic role of pig farming in generating income, jobs, and regional development. The state government's assessment is that the combination of public policies, private capital, and technical innovation creates the basis for the continued expansion of the sector in Mato Grosso do Sul.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
