The Federation of Agriculture and Livestock of the State of Mato Grosso (Famato) views with concern the announcement on June 15th by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) regarding the availability of more than 3.1 million doses of clostridial vaccines on the Brazilian market. Although the measure is considered important to expand the supply of the immunizing agent, livestock farmers in Mato Grosso still face difficulties in accessing the doses, which continue to arrive in limited quantities.<\/p>\n
Since April, Famato's Beef Cattle Commission has been monitoring the situation in the state and engaging in dialogue with the industry, sector entities, and government agencies in search of solutions to minimize the impacts of the vaccine shortage, which prevents serious infectious diseases such as botulism, tetanus, symptomatic anthrax, and gas gangrene.<\/p>\n
According to Amarildo Merotti, coordinator of the Famato Beef Cattle Commission, the announcement regarding the national release of more than 3 million doses is positive, but it still does not solve the problems faced by ranchers on the front lines.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe release of new doses is an important measure, but we observe in the field that vaccines are still arriving in reduced volumes at retailers. There are many pending orders and demand remains high. Livestock farmers need access to the product to maintain the herd's health schedule, and this continues to worry the sector,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n
According to Merotti, even with the efforts announced by the federal government and industry, the supply is still occurring gradually in several regions, including Mato Grosso.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have received reports that the doses are arriving in small batches, insufficient to meet all the accumulated demand. The announcement sends a positive signal, but the market has not yet perceived an effective normalization of supply,\u201d he points out.<\/p>\n
Another situation that worries livestock farmers is the significant increase in vaccine prices in recent months. According to the Famato Livestock Commission, in addition to the shortage, the cost of the vaccine has practically doubled in some regions, increasing the expenses of rural producers.<\/p>\n
According to the commission coordinator, it is crucial that actions to expand supply continue in the coming months to ensure market regulation and the maintenance of animal health on rural properties.<\/p>\n
