The 2026 World Cup promises to boost not only football but also the consumption of animal protein in Brazil. While millions of fans gather in bars, restaurants, and barbecues to watch the games, Mato Grosso takes center stage as one of the main suppliers of beef protein for Brazilians, producing 131% of the available bovine protein.<\/p>\n
Data from 2025 from the Secretariat of Foreign Trade (Secex) shows that the state produced 2.006 million tons of beef carcass equivalent and exported 978,320 tons to 92 countries. Even with a strong presence in the international market, more than half of the production remained in the domestic market. In total, 1.027 million tons were destined to supply Mato Grosso and other Brazilian states.<\/p>\n
This volume is sufficient to represent an average supply of 4.82 kilograms of beef per capita in the country over the course of a year, which represents 13% of all beef available to Brazilians in 2025.<\/p>\n
In practice, this means that for every almost eight kilograms of meat consumed in Brazil, one kilogram originated in Mato Grosso, passing through farms, slaughterhouses, and the processing industry located in the state.<\/p>\n
According to Bruno de Jesus Andrade, Project Director at the Mato Grosso Institute of Meat (Imac), the numbers demonstrate the importance of Mato Grosso's livestock industry, both for the international market and for national supply.<\/p>\n
