Brazil has reached a new milestone in sustainable soy production. In 2025, the country surpassed the mark of 2 million hectares certified under the Roundtable on Responsible Soy Production Standard (RTRS), registering a growth of 28% compared to the previous year. The result reinforces Brazil's leading role in supplying soy produced under rigorous environmental, social, and economic criteria.<\/p>\n
The latest figures show that Mato Grosso remains the leader in RTRS certification in the country, with more than 4.9 million tons produced in certified areas and 1.2 million hectares audited. Following are Maranh\u00e3o, Piau\u00ed, Goi\u00e1s, and Bahia, consolidating the strength of the Matopiba region in advancing sustainable agriculture in Brazil.<\/p>\n
According to Cid Sanches, Market Development and Institutional Relations consultant in Brazil for RTRS, Mato Grosso's leadership is the result of a combination of factors involving production scale, strategic logistics, and the actions of multiplier agents.<\/p>\n
According to him, there is strong engagement from organizations that help disseminate the RTRS model, such as Amaggi and CAT Sorriso. Furthermore, Mato Grosso has a significant logistical advantage, since a large portion of the soy destined for the European market is shipped through the ports of the Northern Arc, such as Santar\u00e9m, Manaus, and Bel\u00e9m.<\/p>\n
Sanches also points out that leadership is directly related to the state's productive profile. "Mato Grosso is the largest soybean producer in Brazil. This favors the presence of producers with an entrepreneurial profile, generally more open to adopting innovations and certification processes," he explains.<\/p>\n
The progress observed in the Matopiba states also draws the attention of RTRS. According to Sanches, the presence of large agricultural properties allows for economies of scale in the implementation of certification. \u201cThese are regions with large expanses of cultivated land. This means that each certified producer represents a significant volume of area and production, contributing significantly to the growth of certification in the country,\u201d he emphasizes.<\/p>\n
Although growth is significant, RTRS believes there is still ample room for expansion of certified soy in Brazil. Regions such as the South of the country, especially Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina, show potential to increase their participation in the coming years, following the example of Paran\u00e1, where the work of agricultural cooperatives has boosted results.<\/p>\n
According to the organization, the increase in certified area sends an important message to the global market. "Brazilian producers are showing the world that, if there is demand for sustainably produced soybeans, there is the capacity to meet that market. It is still a niche in relation to the total cultivated area in the country, but it is a segment that grows year after year and has great potential for expansion," concludes Sanches.<\/p>\n
