With investments of around R$350 million and the creation of 950 new direct jobs, the Aurora S\u00e3o Gabriel do Oeste Meat Processing Plant (FASGO) \u2013 belonging to Aurora Coop \u2013 will become one of the largest industrial pork processing units in the Brazilian Midwest. Slaughter capacity will be increased by 60%, from the current 3,200 pigs\/day to 5,000 pigs\/day.<\/span><\/p>\n The inauguration ceremony is scheduled to take place at 2 pm on July 2nd, at the unit's premises in S\u00e3o Gabriel do Oeste, Mato Grosso do Sul, bringing together authorities, rural producers, cooperative members, suppliers, and the press.<\/span><\/p>\n The president of Aurora Coop \u2013 the third largest Brazilian group in animal protein \u2013 Neivor Canton explains that the priority is to increase the supply of processed products for the domestic market, such as cooked, smoked, fresh, cured meats and hamburgers, among others. The unit is also authorized to export pork cuts and offal to Vietnam, Uruguay, Singapore, Paraguay, Moldova, Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates and a general list.<\/span><\/p>\n Canton emphasizes that diversifying the portfolio strengthens Aurora Coop's position in the Brazilian market and also as a global player. "It is fundamental to invest in production and launch innovative product lines, generating value for our cooperative farmers, employees, clients, and consumers, without forgetting the sustainable management of the production chain," he noted.<\/span><\/p>\n REGIONAL REFLEX<\/span><\/p>\n The expansion of the swine industry will allow the unit's gross operating revenue to increase by R$733 million, totaling R$2.399 billion annually. This growth of R$451,000 will have a positive impact on the north-central region of Mato Grosso do Sul, increasing regional economic activity by an additional R$237.5 million.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n WORKS<\/span><\/p>\n Preliminary services at FASGO began in December 2022, and construction work started in July 2023. The projected completion date for all works at the facility is September 2026. At the peak of the expansion, more than 15 companies and 250 workers were involved.<\/span><\/p>\n The industrial unit had a constructed area of 38,614.10 m\u00b2, which was expanded by an additional 9,543.24 m\u00b2. The current 2,650 direct jobs will increase to 3,600 jobs.<\/span><\/p>\n The expansions consisted of the construction of buildings for drivers' housing, the Federal Inspection Service (SIF), the SESMT clinic, an industrial restaurant, changing rooms, restrooms, a laundry, training rooms, a machine room, and a wastewater treatment plant. In addition, the works included the slaughterhouse\/processing plant, with an increase in slaughter capacity and annexes, construction of new equalization chambers, expansion of the cutting room, expansion of the processed products area, as well as internal renovations and adaptations.<\/span><\/p>\n With the slaughter of 5,000 pigs\/day, the production of processed and fresh pork products will be increased by an additional 20.0 tons\/day of ham products; 36.3 tons\/day of cooked and smoked products; 44.0 tons\/day of fresh products; and 6.9 tons\/day of lard products from the refinery. Thus, the total capacity for processed products will reach 432 tons per day.<\/span><\/p>\n ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY<\/span><\/p>\n The expansion plan absorbed R$350 million invested in three areas: machinery and equipment (approximately R$125 million), civil construction (around R$130 million), and industrial facilities (amounting to R$95 million). In addition to its own resources, to support the disbursement, Aurora Coop obtained financing through the Constitutional Financing Fund of the Midwest.<\/span><\/p>\n Aurora Coop's industry incorporates the latest technological advancements with the adoption of a high level of automation\/robotization of the unit. The slaughter line has been completely replaced to meet the new slaughter capacity at high speed. The new line will provide ergonomically suitable activities and precise operations. Thus, it will allow for the future installation of robots for specific tasks.<\/span><\/p>\n Significant technological advantages are present in the state-of-the-art equipment that guarantees safety, performance, and quality in the production process. Automation in specific stages of production will provide agility and reduce labor in critical activities.<\/span><\/p>\n On the other hand, the migration from the current wastewater treatment system, composed of stabilization ponds, to the new activated sludge system represents a major sustainability advantage. This change will result in better quality wastewater discharged into the water body and a significant reduction in CO2 emissions (greenhouse gases).<\/span><\/p>\n The workforce needed to fill the 950 new jobs that will be created will be recruited in S\u00e3o Gabriel do Oeste and surrounding municipalities.<\/span><\/p>\n The pigs needed to meet the nearly 60% increase in slaughter will come from cooperative rural producers within the Suicooper III system. The affiliated cooperatives operating in the region are already investing in feed mills, fattening and finishing farms, and especially in piglet production units, ensuring that the majority of the pigs are produced locally, leaving only 10% of the total piglets for rearing and fattening originating from southern Brazil.<\/span><\/p>\n INVESTMENT PLAN<\/span><\/p>\n Overall, Aurora Coop invested R$ 2.4 billion in the last three years, used for the modernization and expansion of its manufacturing units and also for the acquisition of new industrial plants, aiming to maintain its position as the third largest group in the sector. Aurora Coop's investment plan allowed for the allocation of R$ 939.1 million in 2023, R$ 580 million in 2024, R$ 885 million in 2025, and a forecast of R$ 1.2 billion for 2026.
