A strong mass of polar air is expected to advance through Brazil starting Friday (4), causing a new cold snap in the North Region and a significant drop in temperatures in more than half of the country. According to data released by Meteored, the phenomenon could bring minimum temperatures below 0\u00b0C and favor the occurrence of strong and widespread frosts in the South Region.\n<\/p>\n
A mass of cold air is already causing a drop in temperatures in the South and Southeast at the beginning of this week. The cold, however, should gain intensity from Friday (4), when a more powerful polar air mass will advance across the country and may cause negative temperatures and widespread frosts in the Southern Region.<\/p>\n
This Tuesday (1st), the passage of a cold front and the advance of a small mass of cold air are already causing a significant reduction in temperatures in states such as Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Paran\u00e1, Mato Grosso do Sul and S\u00e3o Paulo.<\/p>\n
Until this Wednesday (2), the system should also reach the south of Mato Grosso and Goi\u00e1s, as well as part of Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais. In these states, the drop in temperatures will be milder, leaving the weather mild.<\/p>\n
During the early morning hours of Wednesday, much of the Southern Region is expected to experience temperatures below 10\u00b0C. In the Serra Ga\u00facha and Serra Catarinense regions, thermometers may reach values close to 0\u00b0C, favoring the formation of localized frosts in several municipalities.<\/p>\n
Temperatures below 10\u00b0C are also expected in the Southeast between Wednesday (2) and Thursday (3). The drop is expected to affect areas of S\u00e3o Paulo, especially the Para\u00edba Valley, southern Minas Gerais, near the Serra da Mantiqueira, as well as the south and mountainous region of Rio de Janeiro.\n<\/p>\n
The scenario changes more significantly from Friday (4), when a much more powerful polar air mass begins to advance through Brazilian territory.<\/p>\n
Throughout Friday, the system should already be affecting Rio Grande do Sul. On Saturday (5), the cold air mass will reach Santa Catarina, Paran\u00e1 and Mato Grosso do Sul, expanding the area under the influence of intense cold.<\/p>\n
The advance should be even more pronounced on Sunday (6), when the polar air mass could reach practically the entire Midwest, including Mato Grosso, Goi\u00e1s and the Federal District, as well as a large part of the Southeast, such as a good part of Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro and the south of Esp\u00edrito Santo.<\/p>\n
The intensity of the cold should increase even further at the beginning of next week. According to data released by Meteored, forecasts indicate that, during the early morning and morning of Monday (7) and Tuesday (8), the Southern Region may register strong and widespread frosts.<\/p>\n
In the mountainous regions of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina, temperatures could drop below zero. The combination of sub-zero temperatures and the extent of the system places these areas among the main points of attention during the polar air mass's influence.\n<\/p>\n
The system's advance is also expected to cause a sharp change in weather conditions across several regions of Brazil. A significant drop in temperatures is anticipated in more than half the country, with the possibility of sub-zero temperatures and frost in the Southern Region.<\/p>\n
According to Meteored, part of the intensity of this phenomenon is related to the Antarctic Oscillation, an index that measures the natural variation in atmospheric pressure and winds around Antarctica.<\/p>\n
The phenomenon is currently in a negative phase, a condition that favors a more intense displacement of polar air masses towards South America.<\/p>\n
With the advance of the cold air mass, the trend is for the cold to gradually spread across Brazilian territory between Friday (4) and the beginning of next week. The South should concentrate the most intense effects, while areas of the Central-West, Southeast and North will also feel the impacts of the change in atmospheric conditions.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
