According to data released by the Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics (Imea), the result should mainly reflect the expectation of lower productivity and a less favorable climatic scenario in the new cycle.

In August 2026, Imea consolidated the figures for the 2025/26 harvest and released the first projections for the 2026/27 season. In the completed cycle, productivity was consolidated at 130.11 sacks per hectare, an increase of 2.231 TP4T compared to the previous harvest and 17.321 TP4T compared to the average of the last five years. Favorable weather conditions during crop development contributed to the performance, leading state production to a new record.

According to data released by Imea, Mato Grosso produced 58.04 million tons of corn in the 2025/26 harvest, an increase of 4.691 TP4T compared to the previous cycle. For the 2026/27 harvest, the area destined for corn was projected at 7.48 million hectares, an increase of 0.591 TP4T. The increase indicates moderate growth in the cultivated area in the new cycle.

Despite the expansion of the planted area, productivity is expected to be lower. Imea's estimate points to a yield of 119.64 sacks per hectare, a decrease of 8.051 TP4T compared to the consolidated productivity in 2025/26. Even with this reduction, the projected yield remains 1.301 TP4T above the average of the last five harvests. The expectation of lower productivity considers a less favorable climatic scenario for the development of the cereal in Mato Grosso.

According to data released by Imea, a possible El Niño event could affect soybean development and delay the oilseed's cycle. This could reduce the window available for corn planting. The delay in the soybean cycle may lead to a larger portion of corn crops being planted outside the ideal window. This scenario increases the risk of water scarcity during corn development, especially with the transition to the dry season in Mato Grosso.

The combination of a only moderately larger area and lower productivity results in a production projection below the record registered in the previous cycle.

According to data released by Imea, Mato Grosso's corn production is expected to reach 53.68 million tons in the 2026/27 harvest, a reduction of 7.50% compared to the 58.04 million tons estimated for 2025/26. The numbers show a change in the scenario between the two harvests. While the 2025/26 cycle was marked by favorable weather conditions, record productivity, and historical production, the 2026/27 season starts from a more cautious perspective.

The area is expected to grow by 0.59%, but the projected yield is projected to decrease by 8.05%. Therefore, the increase in area would not be sufficient to offset the expected drop in productivity.

Productivity trends also reinforce the influence of weather conditions on second crop planning in Mato Grosso. The possibility of planting delays, coupled with the onset of the dry season, increases the risks for crops planted outside the ideal window.

Therefore, the initial estimate for 2026/27 points to a production of 53.68 million tons, 7.50% below the record projected for the 2025/26 harvest.

THE Bela Cereais works with the best grains on the market and also keeps you up to date with the latest news and analyses on agribusiness.
Don't forget to follow our social networks.

Access News Source

[223
244,248,255,249,254,250,246,247,256,245,253,252,251
post-27980","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-milho","tag-agrolink","tag-agrotoxicos","tag-artigos-tecnicos","tag-classificados","tag-colunistas","tag-compra","tag-cotacoes","tag-defensivos","tag-eventos","tag-noticias","tag-precos-agricolas","tag-previsao-do-tempo","tag-venda
["GET
