Corn planting advanced strongly in Rio Grande do Sul during the period, favored by the reduction in surface soil moisture, greater availability of solar radiation and rising temperatures. According to data released by Emater\/RS-Ascar in the Conjunctural Report on Thursday (3), the crop should occupy 896,401 hectares, with an estimated production of 6.91 million tons.\n<\/p>\n
The crops show satisfactory germination and emergence, as well as uniform stands. Most areas are in the early stages of vegetative development, although some establishment problems have been recorded in locations sown with excessively wet soil or affected by rain soon after sowing.<\/p>\n
The pace of planting is faster in lower altitude areas and in locations where the planting window of the Agricultural Zoning for Climatic Risk (ZARC) has already been established. In colder environments and soils with greater drainage difficulties, progress is slower.<\/p>\n
According to data released by Emater\/RS-Ascar, phytosanitary conditions require attention. There is a high incidence of corn leafhopper, including in areas under crop rotation, in addition to localized damage caused by stink bugs in the early stages of development.<\/p>\n
Emater\/RS-Ascar estimates an average productivity of 7,711 kg per hectare and a production of approximately 6.91 million tons. The projected area is 7.421 TP4T larger than the previous harvest, while production represents an increase of 7.181 TP4T.<\/p>\n
The expansion occurs within a context of recovery and consolidation of the crop in the state. In the 2025\/2026 harvest, the effectively cultivated area reached 812,500 hectares, 13.1% above the 2024\/2025 harvest. Production reached approximately 5.98 million tons, also exceeding the previous cycle.<\/p>\n
In the Emater\/RS-Ascar administrative region of Bag\u00e9, the estimated planted area is 63,682 hectares, with a projected productivity of 6,551 kg\/ha. In the Western Border region, in Ma\u00e7ambar\u00e1, sowing progressed satisfactorily, favored by sporadic rain showers, adequate soil moisture, and increased temperatures.\n<\/p>\n
According to data released by Emater\/RS-Ascar, these conditions provided rapid germination and good initial plant stands in Ma\u00e7ambar\u00e1. However, in lower-lying areas with poor drainage, planting restrictions still exist, and producers are concerned about the impact on the subsequent soybean planting window.<\/p>\n
In S\u00e3o Borja, planting reached 60% out of the planned 25,000 hectares. Climatic conditions also favored the desiccation of cover crops, carried out with a roller-knife alone or in combination with herbicides, for the management of turnip, oats, rye, and vetch.<\/p>\n
In the Caxias do Sul region, the estimated area under cultivation is 96,052 hectares, with a projected yield of 7,953 kg\/ha. Land preparation work is underway, and sowing is expected to begin in September.<\/p>\n
In Erechim, 44,915 hectares are projected, with a productivity of 8,956 kg\/ha. Sowing began during the period and has reached approximately 30% of the planned area.<\/p>\n
In the Frederico Westphalen region, the estimated area is 86,660 hectares, with a projected productivity of 8,119 kg\/ha.<\/p>\n
In Iju\u00ed, the period was marked by intense sowing activity, increasing the planted area to over 601 TP4T. According to data released by Emater\/RS-Ascar, soil moisture became adequate from August 25th onwards, initially in areas with less straw and subsequently in the remaining areas.<\/p>\n
Given the forecast of heavy rainfall, some producers reduced the depth at which seeds were planted. Areas sown in early August showed excellent emergence, uniform germination, and few seed failures.<\/p>\n
For Iju\u00ed, the projection is for 112,855 hectares of cultivated land, with a productivity of 9,473 kg\/ha, according to data released by Emater\/RS-Ascar.<\/p>\n
In the administrative regions of Lajeado, Passo Fundo, Pelotas, Porto Alegre, and Santa Maria, the estimated areas are, respectively, 31,340, 84,360, 37,940, 32,854, and 59,835 hectares.<\/p>\n
The projected yields in these regions are 5,959 kg\/ha in Lajeado, 9,359 kg\/ha in Passo Fundo, 4,675 kg\/ha in Pelotas, 4,419 kg\/ha in Porto Alegre, and 6,618 kg\/ha in Santa Maria, according to data released by Emater\/RS-Ascar.<\/p>\n
In the Santa Rosa region, planting progressed significantly, reaching 741 TP4T of the planned 174,288 hectares. The projected yield is 8,353 kg\/ha.<\/p>\n
The crops in Santa Rosa are in the vegetative development stage and show uniform stands. According to data released by Emater\/RS-Ascar, there is high pressure from corn leafhoppers, which has led producers to intensify monitoring and insecticide applications.<\/p>\n
In some areas of Santa Rosa, there has been a reduction in the pest population in the last week. However, the pressure from the leafhopper remains among the main phytosanitary concerns in the region.<\/p>\n
In the Soledade region, 20% of the planned area has already been sown. The estimated cultivation area is 71,620 hectares, with a projected productivity of 5,659 kg\/ha.<\/p>\n
According to data released by Emater\/RS-Ascar, most of the remaining areas in Soledade are prepared and desiccated for planting. The rise in temperatures in the last few days of the period contributed to reducing soil moisture and favored the germination, emergence, and initial development of the already planted crops.\n<\/p>\n
The planted areas in Soledade are entirely in the germination, emergence, and initial development stages. Therefore, the progress of planting remains contingent on the humidity and temperature conditions observed in the different regions of the state.<\/p>\n
The crop outlook shows significant progress in corn planting in Rio Grande do Sul, with favorable germination and establishment conditions in most areas. At the same time, differences in temperature and soil drainage are maintaining distinct planting rates across regions.<\/p>\n
