Brazilian exports of cotton<\/a> They begin the 2026\/27 season with positive prospects, but the growth in production increases the need to conquer new markets and expand fiber consumption. With supply again above 4 million tons, the sector assesses that Brazilian competitiveness remains high, although the international environment demands greater commercial effort.\n<\/p>\n

The assessment was presented by the National Association of Cotton Exporters, Anea, during a meeting of the Sectoral Chamber of the Cotton and Derivatives Production Chain. In the first two months of the commercial season, Brazil exported 261,000 tons, with 155,000 in July and 106,000 in August. Even with a delay in the arrival of the new harvest, the volume was only 18,000 tons below the best historical result for the period. Stronger shipments are expected from October onwards.<\/p>\n

The high supply reinforces this challenge. Abrapa estimates cotton production at 4.144 million tons in the 2025\/26 harvest, while Anea calculates 4.178 million tons. Productivity should compensate for a good part of the reduction in area and keep the country close to the highest volumes ever recorded.\n<\/p>\n

In the international market, China continues with limited imports, while Bangladesh, Vietnam, Turkey, Pakistan, India, and Egypt are gaining importance as destinations. At the same time, trade negotiations, interest rates, international tensions, and incentives for US cotton are increasing uncertainties.<\/p>\n

The sector also seeks to expand the market share of natural fibers in the face of competition from synthetic products. However, the domestic industry is facing declining production and increasing clothing imports. Abrapa and Abit are working towards the goal of recovering domestic cotton consumption to around 1 million tons and expanding fiber processing in the country.\n<\/p>\n
