The use of corn<\/a> In animal feed, demand is expected to lose ground in China in the 2026\/27 crop year, pressured by the adoption of alternative ingredients and the financial difficulties of pig farming. Despite this, total demand for grains for feed and other uses should remain virtually stable, with the contraction in the pig sector partially offset by growth in poultry farming, aquaculture, and ruminant farming.\n<\/p>\n

According to a report from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), released on October 1st, Chinese corn production is expected to reach 306 million tons, compared to 301.2 million tons in the previous season. Imports are expected to rise from 4 million to 6 million tons. Consumption, meanwhile, was estimated at 322 million tons, a reduction of 1 million tons compared to the June projection.<\/p>\n

The share of corn in feed formulations fell from 47% in January to 29% in August. Pig production continues to face high losses, accelerating the reduction of breeding sows. At the same time, wheat, barley, and sorghum are gaining ground due to their more competitive prices.\n<\/p>\n

The forecast for wheat production remains at 141 million tons, while consumption is expected to reach 150 million tons, an increase of 2 million tons compared to the September estimate, driven by greater use in animal feed. Demand for flour remains weak, in a scenario of excess milling capacity and reduced margins.<\/p>\n

In the rice sector, paddy rice production is expected to grow slightly to 210 million tons, favored by higher productivity. Total consumption is expected to decline to 147.3 million tons. Broken rice is also gaining ground as a substitute for corn, with high imports, mainly from India, Myanmar, and Vietnam, due to lower prices.\n<\/p>\n
