This article starts from the challenges facing the industry and examines how the SINO-AGRI platform, from Sino-Agri Leading, seeks to create value through an open platform and brand trust.

I. Structural Challenges Behind the Growth of Chinese Formulation Exports

Inflection Point in Agrochemical Price Cycles: The End of the Superboom and the Structural Recession

The current agrochemical price cycle is essentially an episode driven by supply shocks. Starting in 2021, factors such as controls on energy consumption, disruptions in supply chains, and geopolitical conflicts converged to push prices to historic levels, with the herbicide price index reaching approximately 143 by mid-2022.

The peak of the boom ended up being the starting point for the decline. From the second half of 2022, the industry entered a phase of "inventory reduction combined with the release of new capacity," with a sharp drop in prices. In 2024–2025, the accumulated decline in the three main product categories reached approximately 50%.

In contrast to the collapse in prices, the crop protection market has demonstrated resilience. The global market size grew from US$59.28 billion in 2019 to a peak of US$74.76 billion in 2022, and remained at US$69.36 billion in 2025, a contraction of only 7.21p. This divergence indicates that the total market volume has not shrunk; it is the expansion of “volume,” not firm “prices,” that sustains revenue.

This defines the main characteristic of the new cycle — “low price, high volume, low profit”. The overall scale of the industry continues to grow, but unit value is being diluted and profitability is being systematically compressed. The fall in prices is fundamentally driven by supply, not by insufficient demand, sustained by three long-term structural factors: population growth, reduction in arable land per capita, and increased production per unit area. The contradiction between rigid long-term demand and short-term supply surplus gives rise to the paradox of “growing without profiting”.

The Dilemma Underlying Chinese Exports of Formulations

Chinese agrochemical exports are undergoing a profound structural transformation: exports of formulations have surpassed technical-grade active ingredients (TGAI) and become the main driver of growth. However, this evolution deserves careful evaluation. Data show that the average price per unit of formulation exports fell from US$ 4.95/kg in 2022 to US$ 2.80/kg in 2025, a cumulative drop of 43.4% in three years (Fig. 1). The recovery in total value was driven entirely by volume expansion, not by price appreciation. This “priceless growth” is fragile—once volume growth stabilizes, total value will face the double pressure of falling volume and price.

The fundamental cause of the current competition for low prices is the persistent expansion of supply. The high prices of 2021–2022 spurred massive investments in capacity expansion across the industry, with planned TGAI capacity alone jumping from 310,000 tons in 2021 to 960,000 tons in 2022—growth exceeding 200%. The number of crop protection companies above the designated size recovered from a low of 693 in 2020 to 893 in 2024, surpassing not only the low but also the 2014 level, indicating less, not more, concentration in the industry (Fig. 2). The persistent expansion on the supply side contrasts sharply with the moderate growth on the demand side, driving industry profit margins to historically low levels.

The Cost of Price Wars and the Latin American Example

The damage caused by price wars goes far beyond reduced margins—they create a self-reinforcing negative cycle: gross margins continue to deteriorate, customer loyalty weakens, building brands becomes impossible, and cash flow comes under pressure. More dangerously, extreme price competition is forcing companies into an impossible choice: reduce profits or lower quality standards. This latter alternative is leading to deteriorating quality and increased incidents. Once quality problems arise in international markets, the damage extends beyond the reputation of individual companies and affects the overall credibility of “Made in China” in the global agrochemical market.

In this process of structural adjustment, Latin America presents itself as the most representative point of observation. Taking Brazil as an example, Chinese formulations have steadily increased their share of local imports, moving from a complementary supply role to a significant source of supply. However, the expansion of market share does not automatically translate into brand value. Chinese formulations still enter the market mainly through B2B channels, with competitive advantages concentrated at the product and supply levels; brand building efforts with end users are still in an exploratory phase. The deeper issue is that multinational corporations still hold more than 70% of market share in important crop markets in Latin America. The homogeneous competition among Chinese agrochemical companies has further reinforced the stereotypical perception that Chinese agrochemical products abroad stand out only for their low price.

Low prices may help companies win orders quickly, but they fail to build a long-term competitive advantage. Looking from Latin America back at the global landscape, the issue becomes clearer: volume growth is phased, but sustained value creation is the foundation of long-term competitiveness. This is precisely the logic behind SINO-AGRI's entry into Latin America—to leverage synergies between products, registrations, supply chain, Funds, channels, and services to provide more efficient market connections throughout the industrial chain, shifting the focus from expanding market share to building stable customer relationships and brand recognition.

II. SINO-AGRI — From Price Competition to Value Creation

SINO-AGRI Platform: Beyond Export Supplier, Towards a Market Value Operator

The central positioning of the SINO-AGRI platform, from Sino-Agri, is to evolve from an “export supplier” to a “market value operator”—going beyond transactional relationships to act as a facilitator of channel optimization, offering systematic market support in four dimensions: products, access, supply chain, funds, and capacity building.

Traditional export trade essentially consists of product-based transactions, whereas the value of platform-based businesses stems from the coordination of resources across products, registries, supply chains, funds, and channels: helping upstream companies access markets more efficiently, providing downstream customers with a more stable supply and reducing inefficiencies in channels, and resolving the temporal, spatial, and resource mismatch between pesticide producers and end farmers.

The PACE value structure underpins the platform's capabilities. Regarding Access, SINO-AGRI has accumulated over 2,000 product registrations overseas in more than 90 countries and regions through proactive registration strategies and local teams, significantly reducing partners' time and financial costs to market entry. In terms of Enablement, the platform covers more than 90 countries and regions with a network of over 500 B2B clients, offering not only sales channels but also helping partners sell more effectively. Regarding Supply Chain, considering the strong seasonality of agrochemicals—whose application windows sometimes last only two to three weeks—SINO-AGRI utilizes centralized purchasing, capacity reservation, and proactive inventory positioning to transform supply fluctuations that individual companies struggle to manage into stable platform-level security. In terms of Product, the platform uses its global market intelligence to ensure that partners receive proactive matches, rather than relying on passive availability.

The deeper significance of this model lies in its ability to elevate competition among Chinese agrochemical companies from a zero-sum game of "who offers the lowest prices" to a positive-sum game of "who creates the most systemic value for customers." When the platform helps partners reduce time-to-market, decrease supply risks, and improve channel efficiency, price ceases to be the sole variable in decision-making.

Two Pillars of Brand and Quality: From Reliable Delivery to Market Trust

A brand is not just advertising or packaging; it's a mechanism of trust built through consistent performance over time. Brand recognition is ultimately established not through a single campaign, but through repeated deliveries and accumulated market feedback.

The construction of the SINO-AGRI brand follows this logic. In 2023, the company launched a global brand renewal in Hangzhou, presenting the brand philosophy "Agriculture for All". In July 2026, the launch event for the SINO-AGRI Argentina brand and new products was held in Rosario, marking the first systematic introduction of the brand philosophy in the South American market.

The ability of a brand philosophy to truly take root depends, first and foremost, on product stability and deliveries. Formulations shipped from Chinese factories to Latin American markets must withstand long-distance maritime transport and complex conditions of high temperature and high humidity, imposing stringent demands regarding appearance stability, stability during storage, dilution characteristics, efficacy, batch consistency, and post-sales responsiveness. Prices can be matched, formulations can be optimized, but a long-term reputation can only be built by...

Through consistently reliable performance over time, SINO-AGRI continues to invest in formulation platform upgrades, innovation in green adjuvants, and R&D of differentiated formulations to sustain brand value accumulation, establishing professional trust in B2B partnerships and, at the same time, providing the basis for brand exploration with the end consumer in Argentina.

Location: Real Progress Happens Closer to the Customer

True localization isn't about putting foreign-language packaging on Chinese products and selling them overseas; it's about redefining products, reorganizing channels, and rebuilding service systems in target markets. Cultivation structures, climatic conditions, application habits, resistance profiles, and regulatory environments vary significantly across markets. A "one-size-fits-all" product portfolio cannot meet the deep needs of any specific market—only those closest to the customer can develop truly effective solutions.

Sino-Agri's localization practice in Latin America reflects this logic. In Brazil, Sino-Agri has built a portfolio of registered products covering soybeans, corn, and citrus, forming a compliance matrix for the entire season. For critical points such as resistant weeds and application windows during the rainy season, it offers differentiated technical solutions—from pre-emergence to full maturity, with specific adjuvants for tank mixtures intended for drones, serving the rapidly growing aerial application sector in Brazil.

The Argentinian market serves as an important pilot project for updating Sino-Agri's international business model. In Latin America and other international markets, the company has long operated primarily through B2B channels, supplying TGAI and formulations to importers, distributors, and local brand customers, while also establishing long-term partnerships through registrations, supply chains, and technical services. Building on this structure, Argentina launched a channel pilot project in 2024, beginning to explore end-consumer brand operations targeting end-user farmers and points of sale. The SINO-AGRI Argentina product launch in July 2026 showcased a comprehensive product portfolio for major crops, including soybeans and corn, covering specialty fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, and synergists—demonstrating the company's transition in Argentina from pure product supply to localized crop solutions.

III. Conclusion: From Passive Response to Active Creation

When excess capacity drives industry profit margins to historically low levels and price competition becomes the only weapon for most companies, each organization faces two choices: passive response or active creation.

A passive response means waiting for the cycle to reverse itself within the circuit of "expand capacity — reduce prices — expand capacity again," but this cycle is much longer than the previous ones, and the waiting itself represents a drain. Active creation means breaking this cycle and shifting competition from price to value — price wars are a zero-sum game, while value creation equally benefits companies, channels, and farmers.

This is the starting point of the open SINO-AGRI platform: to reduce market entry costs and improve supply efficiency for partners through systematic capabilities in products, registrations, supply chains, funds, and channels. From B2B resource coordination to B2C brand exploration in Argentina, the central element remains the transition from exclusively product-based offerings to the systematic creation of value.

“Agriculture for All” emphasizes a commitment to long-term agricultural value. For Chinese agrochemical companies, the next phase of internationalization involves evolving from exporting only products to the integrated export of products, supply chains, channels, services, and brand capabilities. The shift from price-based to value-based competition will also redefine the role of Chinese companies in the global market.

THE Bela Cereais works with the best grains on the market and also keeps you up to date with the latest news and analyses on agribusiness.
Don't forget to follow our social networks.

Access News Source

As exportações chinesas de formulações estão passando por uma transição crítica da “expansão de escala”…

[7
244,248,255,249,254,250,246,247,256,245,253,252,251
post-28851","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-exportacoes","tag-agrolink","tag-agrotoxicos","tag-artigos-tecnicos","tag-classificados","tag-colunistas","tag-compra","tag-cotacoes","tag-defensivos","tag-eventos","tag-noticias","tag-precos-agricolas","tag-previsao-do-tempo","tag-venda
["GET
