Through the Siga-MS Project, Aprosoja MS released the new Casa Rural da Agricultura Bulletin, continuing to monitor the development of the second corn crop 2024/25 in Mato Grosso do Sul.

The expectation is that the state will harvest 2.103 million hectares with an average productivity of 80.8 bags per hectare, which should result in a production of 10.199 million tons, 20.6% higher than that recorded in the last harvest.

The project technicians classified 78% of the crops in Mato Grosso do Sul as good condition, 15.3% as regular and 6.6% as poor.

“The second corn harvest has excellent production potential. This is due to the good volume of rainfall in April, which mainly benefited corn crops that were in the phenological stages between V10 and R2. It is estimated that 50% of the crops were in this phenological period in April. However, there is still a risk of drought and frost until the end of the crop cycle”, highlights the report.

“In the last week of May, due to the cold front that hit the state, associated with the rains, it caused light frost in the central and southern regions, but without significant damage to the corn crops”, add the technicians.

On the marketing side, Aprosoja MS points out that 26% of this production has already been traded in the state, which is 6 percentage points ahead of the index recorded in the same period last year for the previous harvest.

The average price of a bag of corn in Mato Grosso do Sul was R$ 56.88 in the week ending June 2, registering a drop of 3.6% compared to last week and 16.91% compared to the same period in 2024.
