Poultry farming in Goiás continues to expand, strengthening the production chain and contributing to food security. The sector stands out for its growing production and consumption, as well as its strategic rise in the domestic and international markets. In the historical series of the last 10 years, egg production grew by 65.71%, jumping from 152.3 million dozen in 2015 to 252.2 million dozen produced in 2024.
The Gross Production Value (VBP) increased by 49.21% compared to 2020. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa), the estimate is that, in 2025, it will reach R$1.6 billion. The activity is present in all 246 municipalities of Goiás, with Inhumas standing out as the largest producer and Cristalina as the municipality that grew the most in egg production in 2024 compared to the previous year.
In the international market, Goiás exported 902.9 tons of fertile eggs in 2024, totaling US$4.5 million, ranking fourth nationally in exports. From January to August 2025, this category represented 45.31% of the sector's revenue.
Production dynamics
The product also stands out for its industrial versatility, being used in its natural state, as liquid egg, or in powder form, in the vaccine and protein supplement industries, adding value and strengthening the production chain. Laying hen farming systems have been evolving to meet animal welfare and market demands, with particular emphasis on furnished cages, cage-free systems, free-range systems, and organic systems. Despite the higher costs, these models produce eggs with high added value.
According to the Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply of Goiás, Pedro Leonardo Rezende, the growth in egg production in the state not only guarantees quality food for the population, but also promotes local development and income opportunities for producers. “This strengthens the producer's routine, allowing them to meet the growing demand of the domestic market and expand their participation in foreign trade. Poultry farming, in general, is an expanding market in Goiás, and public policies such as the FCO Rural, which has approved more than R$260 million in letters of intent for the activity in the last six years, contribute to valuing producers throughout the state,” says the official.
