Imea (Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics) released a report showing updates on the corn harvest in the state. The survey highlights that the corn supply for the 2024/25 cycle is 50.56 million tons, an increase of 2.6% compared to the estimate in May/25 and 4.18% compared to the 2023/24 harvest.
The area was estimated at 7.13 million hectares, an increase of 4.85% compared to the previous cycle. As for productivity, the Institute projected 117.74 sc/ha.
“This progress reflects the good development of crops until the end of May/25, and the rains that remained present until the end of the month. As a result, even areas that were sown outside the “ideal” window benefited from these precipitations”, the report points out.
Regarding demand, the forecast for the 24/25 season is 50.04 million tons, an increase of 2.56% compared to May/25 and 3.49% higher than the 23/24 harvest.
“This increase was driven mainly by the growth in consumption in Mato Grosso, which rose 4.31% compared to the last harvest, leveraged by the increase of 9.35% in consumption by corn ethanol plants, responsible for 76.63% of state consumption. In exports, a growth of 9.45% is expected in the 24/25 harvest compared to the last one, with a share of 53.82% in total demand, totaling 26.93 million tons”, explain the Imea technicians.
