Cattle prices in Mato Grosso approach those in São Paulo

A survey by Cepea shows that prices for beef cattle in Mato Grosso – the state with the largest herd in Brazil – have been approaching those in São Paulo. The differences have been on a downward trend since the end of 2022.

In April 2025, Cepea collected some businesses in Mato Grosso being carried out at values above those observed in São Paulo.

Even so, on average for that month, the difference between the prices of these two states was only R$9.50 per arroba (with an advantage for São Paulo cattle), the smallest difference since mid-2017, when, Cepea researchers point out, livestock farming had a different configuration.

In April last year, beef cattle in São Paulo were traded at 22.20 Reais/arroba above those traded in Mato Grosso.

In May, data from Cepea shows that average prices in Mato Grosso are 12.30 Reais/arroba higher than those in São Paulo – a year ago, the scenario was the opposite, with an advantage of 20.10 Reais for beef from São Paulo over beef from Mato Grosso.
