Pork exports maintain international momentum

Brazilian exports of fresh and processed pork fell from July to August, but still remain above the levels observed in the same period of 2024. According to data from the Secretariat of Foreign Trade (Secex), 120 thousand tons were shipped in August, a reduction of 4.2% compared to July, but an increase of 2.6% compared to August 2024.

According to Cepea's Pork Bulletin, the monthly decline was influenced by the lower number of business days in August (21 days) compared to July (23 days). However, the daily average of exports reached 5.1 thousand tons, an increase of 4.3% compared to the previous month and 6.3% in the year-to-date figure.

Revenue from shipments fell 8% compared to July, to R$1.597 billion, pressured by lower volume and the appreciation of the real against the dollar. Compared to August 2024, revenue increased 4.7%. The average international pork price was US$1,753.1 per ton, the lowest since February 2024.

Asia remained the main destination for Brazilian pork. The Philippines led shipments, with 33,400 tons. For the first time in history, Chile became the second-largest buyer, with 13,300 tons. China and Japan rounded out the rankings, with 10,300 and 8,500 tons, respectively.
