Pig farming continued to show good results in March, despite the increase in costs and the drop in prices, although in the first half of April, the price of live animals rose again. Exports remained very sustained, surpassing the previous year's records, with excellent sales to Asia and the Americas.

Live pig prices in the state of São Paulo fell slightly (-1.4%) in the March average compared to February 2025, but rose again from the beginning of April, closing at R$ 8.60/kg live on April 15, which is 30% higher than the price a year ago. Prices in 2025 have fluctuated more than in the previous year, but at a level well above the same period in 2024.
Despite the small reduction in the price of the animal in São Paulo, in the producing states of the South region and in Minas Gerais, the falls were greater in March (-3.3%) compared to February.
In addition to the price drop, the cost of pig farming increased by 1.9% in the weighted average for the South Region and Minas Gerais, reducing the spread of the activity to 22%, compared to 26% in the previous month. Even so, the result of R$ 220/finished head is quite satisfactory.
Exports also continue at full steam, with an increase of 18.2% in the quantity of in natura shipped in the 1st quarter of 2025. Specifically in March, sales totaled 103 thousand tons, 30.4% above March 2024. In addition, the average shipping price increased by 0.5% compared to February 2025. The export spread was 43% against a historical average of 39%.
Among external destinations, although China remained in first place in the 1st quarter of 2025 (112 thousand tons), the Philippines, in second place (92 thousand tons), grew 97% compared to the 1st quarter of 2024. Also noteworthy are the growth in shipments to Japan (90%) and Vietnam (35%). Sales have also increased in South America, with growth of 36% in the quarter and even to the United States and Mexico.
