The successive increases in corn prices have worried the national pig farming sector regarding the activity margin.
Cepea surveys show that, in the partial of this year (up to March 18), the cereal traded in the Campinas region (SP) – represented by the Esalq/BM&FBovespa Indicator – has already risen a significant 24%.
This week, the average value of cereals sold in São Paulo reached R$$ 90/60 kg bag, a nominal level that has not been seen since April 2022.
According to Cepea's Grains team, the boost comes from low corn stocks and heated demand.
Live pig prices are falling, reflecting, according to the Research Center, the supply of animals exceeding the demand from slaughterhouses for new batches.
