Farmers have already harvested 90% of soybeans in Paraná and the harvest is expected to grow by 14%

Paraná soybean producers have already harvested more than 90% of the grain cultivation area in the State until March 24. The data is part of the latest bulletin from the Department of Rural Economy (Deral) of the Secretariat of Agriculture and Supply (Seab), which also indicate an increase in productivity in the 2024/2025 harvest compared to the previous one.

For the current harvest, Deral estimates that productivity will be 3,673 kilos per hectare planted, well above the average for the 2023/2024 harvest, which was 3,200 kilos per hectare. The improvement in performance, according to Seab technicians, is linked to good weather conditions during crop development, but also to the use of improved management techniques by farmers in Paraná.

In this harvest, soybean planting remained practically stable in relation to the last, occupying 5.786 million hectares. This maintenance, added to the increase in average productivity, should cause the total volume of soybeans in the State to increase by 14%, reaching 18.51 million tons.

In one week, the grain harvest in Paraná advanced 9 percentage points, starting from 81% of the area harvested in the previous report. In addition, the quality showed significant improvement. Until last week, 87% of the crops were in good condition, 12% in average condition and 1% with a poor evaluation. In the most recent survey, the proportion of well-evaluated crops increased to 90%, while those in average condition decreased to 10%, with no records of crops classified as poor.

Other cultures

In addition to soybeans, the Department of Rural Economy also presented other news about Paraná's agribusiness in its bulletin.

The 1st corn harvest is practically finished, with 92% of the planted area already harvested, with great variation in productivity due to weather conditions. In the 2nd corn harvest, only isolated areas that suffered from lack of rain remain, which represent the remaining 10% to be harvested.

Sweet potato and yuca producers are reaping good harvests, with good financial gains. The harvest of two-cycle cassava is proceeding as expected, while single-cycle crops are developing well, favored by the suitable climate and the care taken by farmers.

The irrigated rice harvest is also occurring as planned and should continue over the coming months, considering the areas replanted in the regions affected by the flooding that occurred in the Ivaí River Valley. These areas are in good vegetative condition.

Peanuts, which suffered from drought in areas where they were planted earlier, recorded lower than expected productivity due to high temperatures. However, in plantations made a little later, productivity is excellent, which can help to offset losses from early planting.

Pasture areas are recovering well, increasing in volume, which should make it easier for farmers to manage their livestock.
