Rainfall above forecast boosts expectations for 2nd harvest in Brazil

Contrary to what the maps predicted, April saw good rainfall volumes over the producing areas of Brazil, resulting in expectations of high production for the 2nd harvest. The first half of May also saw localized rainfall, maintaining good soil moisture levels. In the United States, the weather favored the advancement of planting and the initial development of crops.

During the month of April 2025, the highest rainfall accumulations occurred in much of the North region, north of the Northeast, west of the Central-West and east of the Southeast region, with volumes exceeding 150 mm, contributing to the maintenance of soil moisture in these areas. In the interior of the Northeast to the South of the country, lower rainfall accumulations were observed, reducing soil moisture levels. The April rains occurred in good volumes and were well distributed over much of the 2nd harvest producing areas, benefiting crop development. In May, some episodes of isolated rainfall were observed that, despite low accumulated volumes, continued to favor the second harvest.

In the United States, the weather scenario has been positive in recent weeks, as rainfall has remained regular and well-distributed, favoring the progress of planting and the initial development of crops. Despite the excess rainfall recorded in some areas, there were no signs of significant problems. Temperatures have been lower in recent weeks, but so far, there has been no significant impact on the progress of field work. Both soybean and corn planting are proceeding at a faster pace than the average of the last 5 years.
