Poultry farming was the main highlight of Goiás' livestock sector at the beginning of 2026, achieving the best result in the historical series. The state recorded the slaughter of 135.7 million chickens in the first quarter, a growth of 7.11% compared to the same period of the previous year, according to the Quarterly Livestock Survey, released by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
The volume represents the highest ever recorded for a first quarter since the beginning of the historical series in 1997, consolidating Goiás as one of the main forces in poultry production in the country. Even with a slight decrease of 1% compared to the immediately preceding quarter, the performance reinforces the solidity of the state's production chain, supported by productivity gains, integration between producers and agribusinesses, and strong demand in domestic and international markets.
The expansion of poultry farming in Goiás also surpassed the national average. In Brazil, chicken slaughter grew 3.61% year-on-year, totaling 1.7 billion birds in the first quarter of the year.
Another relevant indicator for the sector is egg production. Goiás recorded 65.4 million dozen eggs in the period, a stable result compared to recent quarters and the second highest volume for a first quarter since the beginning of the historical series in 1987.
