Farmers and technical managers of poultry farms should be aware of the deadline for submitting the Biosecurity Declaration to the Goiana Agricultural Defense Agency (Agrodefesa). The deadline for fulfilling this obligation is January 31st. The document must be completed and uploaded to the Goiás Agricultural Defense System (Sidago). This measure is part of a set of actions adopted for the prevention and mitigation of the risk of highly pathogenic avian influenza (bird flu).
According to Rafael Vieira, Director of Agricultural Defense at Agrodefesa, cooperation between the productive sector and the official service is fundamental to preserving Goiás' sanitary status at a time when the disease is advancing in Europe, with 42 confirmed outbreaks in 14 days, and when the state of Mato Grosso is working to contain an outbreak detected in subsistence poultry. “Keeping Goiás free from avian influenza and Newcastle disease requires joint work. The requirement for a Biosecurity Declaration reinforces preventive actions and ensures that poultry farms are aligned with Agrodefesa's standards and the guidelines of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA),” he emphasizes.

The declaration is mandatory and must be prepared by the veterinary technician responsible for the establishment, who is responsible for carrying out the hygienic and sanitary controls of the herds. Failure to comply with this requirement may result in sanctions for the technicians due to unethical conduct, as provided for in the Code of Ethics for Veterinarians, established through Resolution 1.138/2016 of the Federal Council of Veterinary Medicine (CFVM). Establishments may also have their registration blocked, resulting in a prohibition on issuing Animal Transit Guides (GTA).
According to Silvânia Andrade Reis, coordinator of the State Poultry Health Program at Agrodefesa, biosecurity is the adoption of a set of operational measures and procedures to prevent, control, and limit the exposure of birds in a production system to disease-causing agents. “The National Poultry Health Program (PNSA) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA) has technical standards for the registration, inspection, and control of commercial poultry establishments. Agrodefesa seeks to ensure compliance with Brazilian legislation and prevent the entry of diseases into Goiás's poultry flocks and losses to the state's economy,” she explains.
How to do it
The Biosecurity Declaration form is available on the Agrodefesa website, on the State Poultry Health Program (Pesa) page. The document must be completed by the responsible veterinarian and uploaded to Sidago by January 31, 2026. In addition to the declaration, it is necessary to upload the Poultry Commercial Establishment Registration.
Among the requirements to be met by poultry farms in Goiás are: screens with a mesh size of up to 2.54 cm; fences at least 5 meters from the shed; presence of a disinfection arch; visitor control with a logbook and restriction signs; cleaning of the area around the farm; personnel training plan in execution; movement covered by a GTA (Animal Transit Guide); presence of only one species and aptitude (meat/egg); absence of fruit trees around the core areas/sheds; and a contingency plan for sanitary emergencies, which may be included in the descriptive report.
