Muyuan Foodstuffs, China's largest pork producer, is considering expanding its operations in Brazil, moving beyond grain acquisition to potential direct investments in pork production. The state of Mato Grosso, the country's main grain-producing hub, appears to be a strategic area for this expansion.
In early 2026, a delegation of company executives visited the municipality of Lucas do Rio Verde, with an agenda focused on evaluating opportunities in the production chain. The visit marked the company's second mission to Brazil and its first to the state of Mato Grosso.
The initial focus was on exploring partnerships for grain supply and analyzing the feasibility of investments in more advanced stages of the chain, such as pig farming and meat processing. The initiative reflects the company's vertically integrated model, which operates from feed production to slaughter.
According to Mayor Miguel Vaz, the municipality has been seeking to present strategic information to attract international capital. The region stands out for its high concentration of agricultural production—about half of the state's grains are produced within a 200-kilometer radius—as well as having a consolidated logistical and industrial infrastructure.
The municipality is also home to significant BRF operations, reinforcing its role as an agro-industrial hub focused on the poultry and pork supply chains.
Founded in 1992, Muyuan maintains a highly integrated production system and, in 2024, had more than 3.1 million breeding sows. The company's potential entry into Brazil indicates a strategic move towards internationalization and diversification of its operations, taking advantage of the country's competitiveness in grain and animal protein production.
The group's preliminary assessment of the Brazilian business environment was positive, indicating potential for new foreign investment in the country's pig farming sector.
